    Thailand Halloween

Well tonight is halloween so have you seen any old Thai witches?

I did anyway the witch on the left works at one of the Jomtien short time bars, aint too bad looking for a witch is she, the devil underneath would probably have been more appropiately dressed as a witch I think.

I think halloween is mainly an American thing as I don't really remember dressing up or pretending to be a ghost or whatever in the UK, all seems bloody stupid to me, plus we never used to have pumpkins in the UK either, at least I don't think so, so have you got any Thai halloween pictures?

I think it a UK thing that got exported to the states and forgotten about here.

Stems from the pagan`s All Hallows Eve.

    Could be wrong though

Halloween is big in the UK now days, but it is mostly for children. One does get the odd gang of teenagers, high on acorns, or whatever they smoke, baging on doors demanding sweeties. Pumpkins have been popular for a few years, in the Brighton area, and those nasty little plastic cutters that 'you just have to have' to make the face. They look ok with a tea light candle inside but they soon go rotten. Sorry I don't have any pictures but I will be out tonight. Happy hallows eve.

    Cheers!

I'd always thought that what we now describe as Halloween started as the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrating the New Year.

You are All Hallow's eve is Christian, not pagan. It was adapted from the Celtic Samhain festival when the worlds of the living and the dead met. It's not from the UK, it's Irish and was taken to America during the massive emigrations caused by the potato famine - apart from not getting anything right you're spot on

BTW those two fat geriatric slappers in DD's post look like somebody's given them a good punch in the nose sometime in the past, what's going on there then, don't they know you can buy nose-bridges for next to nothing from Thailand's world-class cosmetic surgeries?

I thought the celts were all over the Uk, but predominantly Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
Thanks for setting the record straight though. Learned something new today

Ireland's not in the UK. The country that became England was deceltified (I made that word up ) not too long after the Romans arrived. Wales and Scotland became Protestant and both Samhain and all hallows eve were suppressed. Ireland was the only country that kept the Samhain festival going in an unbroken line although they did cut out the human sacrifice sometime in the 18th century. Halloween was then exported from Ireland to the USA where they added pumpkins to it and put it on the Simpsons, from there the current bastardised trick-or-treat version has been exported to nearly every country in the solar system.
