Open House at Fr. Ray Foundation

The Father Ray Foundation will conduct the first ever Open House at The Pattaya Orphanage and School for Deaf Children and at the Redemptorist Vocational Training School for the Disabled on Sunday September 16 from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

The Orphanage was founded in 1970 by Father Ray Brennan, an Irish-American Catholic Redemptorist priest. Its primary purpose is to provide a home for poor orphans so they have shelter, food, medical care, and good education regardless of their nationality and faith. Adoption by good parents accomplished through the legal requirements has resulted in children being relocated to more than 12 countries. There are currently 163 children living here.

The original buildings were recently completely renovated and updated to include fire escape and alarm systems and house the babies, toddlers and older girls. The cost to re-construct was over 13 million baht.

The School for Deaf Children was opened by Father Ray in 1982 and shares the area occupied by the Pattaya Orphanage. The purpose of the school is to help deaf children by teaching them Thai sign language to prepare them for further schooling in the government’s schools for the deaf. There are currently 33 students attending the school.

The Vocational School, founded in 1984 by Father Ray, is regarded as one of the best vocational training schools in the region. Its primary purpose is to offer training to those who are physically disabled. The curriculum is designed to offer courses in computer science, electronics repair, and computer and business management in English. There are currently 183 students attending.

The newest building, opened officially by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on February 15, 2007, is three stories, 18 meters wide and 52.5 meters long containing 2100 square meters designed for multi-purpose use; dormitory for female students, computer workrooms, language rooms and a study room. It contains an elevator and a wheelchair ramp. The security system is designed to international standards. The cost to construct the building was over 21 million baht. Teaching, educational equipment, and other furnishings were added at a cost of an additional 9.7 Million baht.

Father Larry Patin, Director of the Fr. Ray Foundation, has extended the invitation to everyone to stop by to see the wonderful work we do and said, “I believe all in our community should be aware of how we help so many disadvantaged people. A visit will be a heart rendering experience for the young and old.”

The entrances to the Pattaya Orphanage and Redemptorist Vocational school are on Sukhumvit Highway on the left side going North between Pattaya Central Road and Pattaya North Road at Km. 145 marker. Look for the Open House banner.
