    Sizzler hosts special yacht racing

Held at Royal Varuna Yacht Club Sizzler, Byte Class International Association, the Yacht Racing Association and the Royal Varuna Yacht Club held the “Sizzler Byte CII World Championship” for the first time in Thailand from April 3 to April 8.

The location was the beach in front of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Pattaya. John Heinecke, general manager of SLRT which operates Sizzler, said that the race had been held seven times and now for the first time in the kingdom. Byte is a single-handed racing sailboat recognised by the international sailing federation and is suitable for competitors of any age and gender. All 10 classes of Byte under the federation’s rules were designed by Ian Bruce, designer of Laser dinghy and himself twice an Olympic gold medallist. There were 33 competitors from six countries taking part, hailing from Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Thailand, Singapore and the UK. The design for Byte is based on the weight of the competitors who could range from 45 to 65 kg. Ian Bruce flew to Thailand to join in the Pattaya competition.
