Historic stamp to mark Thai Children’s Day

Historic stamp to mark Thai Children’s Day

BANGKOK, Jan 3 – Thailand Post will create the widest stamp in the country's postal history to mark the coming National Children’s Day, a senior executive of the state corporation said today.

Parisa Pananond, Thailand Post’s marketing communications manager, said the stamp, portraying drawing of boys and girls in national costumes of 10 ASEAN member countries, is designed to mark the Children’s Day on January 12 and to welcome the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

The national flags of all ten ASEAN countries with their names in alphabetical order are also printed on the stamp which is 124mm in width – wider than the 116mm stamp with an illustration of Suphannahongse, the royal barge, released in 1997.

It will be the widest in the 130-year history of Thai stamps.

First day covers of the widest Thai stamp will be available on January 12.

The world’s widest stamp, 162 mm, was released in 2011 to mark the 45th anniversary of Singaporean-Egyptian diplomatic relations.

Hope this helps. My 13 year old step daughter could only name 3 countries one of which was her beloved Thailand, and that was after a day of studying the subject at the local private school.
