Phuket Gains Dinosaur Exhibition from Next Month

Phuket Gains Dinosaur Exhibition from Next Month

PHUKET: Dinosaurs are coming to Phuket next month for the first time, with an exhibition of creatures from Thailand's north set to open at the Phuket Aquarium on Cape Panwa.

Work is underway to make room for six dinosaur skeletons and a recreated giant, plus other relics of Thailand's intriguing prehistoric past.

It's a BIG treat brought to Phuket especially by Sirindhoru Museum in Kalasin province, the part of Isaan where there giants once roamed and where the impressive skeletons are now housed.

Appropriately, some of the skeletons on show at the Phuket Aquarium will be of marine creatures.

The Phuket exhibition runs from August 25 to September 18 and the entry fee is 50 baht for Thais and 20 baht for children, and 100 baht for non-Thais and 50 baht for non-Thai children.

The entry fee will cover the cost of transporting the skeletons to Phuket. Children on Phuket and in neighboring Krabi and Phang Nga are unlikely to have a better chance to see dinosaur skeletons up close in this fashion.

The Phuket dinosaur show is being sponsored by the Department of Mineral Resources, which has organised the exhibition on Phuket.

Among the creatures on display will be Suree Theerarangsikul, Phuwiangosaurus Siridhornae, Siamocaurus Suteethorni, Siamotyrannus Isanensis, Kinareemimus, Psittacosaurus Sattayaraki and Isanpsaurus Attaripachi.

The Phuket aquarium is changing directors at the moment. The new director is expected to be in place by the time the Phuket dinosaur exhibition opens.
