I love everything about going to the beach. Except for the sun, the sand, the water, the beach chair operators and the dickheads that think I'd like to buy whatever piece of crap they are trying to sell.

    For the most part, true.

Best beaches for me were in Brazil and the west coast of Mexico.
I'm not a big fan of beaches in Thailand either. The best beach I have ever found was near St. Anne, in Guadeloupe FWI.

I do plan on hitting Krabi on my next vacation.

I once went from Kata Noi (Phuket) south to drop off some old feller by boat (he was a mate's g/f's uncle). He had this lovely little shack on his own private beach, no access other than by sea, and he made a mean bong.
It was supposed to be a 30 minute round trip but it took us about six hours all told.

Clear blue seas, cheap jetskis, great food, no hassle, free deckchairs, no Russians or fully clothed Thais on banana boats.

I'm still looking for the one that was portrayed in the movie "The Beach". You know, the one that had acres and acres of weed growing wild.

You should have visited Koh Chang in Trat in years gone by.

There was this little road side restaurant boasting the following hand written bill board:

Buy one bottle of Mekong and smoke all the ganja you like.
Beats harvesting weed by yourself, I`d say. The best of both worlds, liquor and weed.

And yes, the White Sand Beach was quite spectacular in those days.

^Unlike the crappy White Sands beach I found with fucking fire jugglers and a Filipino band that were far too loud

    Cannot argue with that.
Went back a few years ago and absolutely loathed it. Never again.

But there is usually a new frontier as I found out

I am not a beach person but I had friends in town last week so I joined them for a day at Kamala.

It was spectacular! Clean sand and water, great rolling surf that was fun to play around in, and rather quiet being low season. We just dropped our towels wherever we wanted and got on with enjoying the day, only got bothered by one vendor who made a half hearted effort to sell us some trinkets but a firm 'no thanks' did the trick.

It's only the second or third time I've been to the beach in the 9ish years I've lived in Phuket but I was pleasantly impressed. A nice lunch of laarb moo and sticky rice washed down with a couple of beers and a postprandial nap made for a very pleasant day.

Pranburi has some really nice quiet beaches, not too hot cuz of the all the trees. If you're worried about the heat and getting a tan, maybe the beach really isn't for you. I usually stay at aleenta resort on pranburi beach. They've got some gorgeous rooms right on the beachfront. It's a beautiful and scenic location, not over run by tourists yet.
