Royal Rainmaking Office Director for the upper North, Somchai Reaungsuthi-Nareuparp, stated that His Majesty the King has expressed his concern about the smoke and drought problems around areas in the northern part of Thailand and ordered the personal affairs division to closely monitor the problems. Meanwhile, Mr Somchai said the first royal rainmaking operation was underway by two Gaza planes, flying along the west side of Doi Inthanon to spray cloud seeds to create moisture in order to solve smoke and drought problems. The targeted provinces for the operation included Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang and Chiang Rai. Mr Somchai stated that a major obstacle for rainmaking operations was the low level of humidity in many areas. Therefore, Chiang Mai and Phayao will be the first two provinces for the rainmaking operation. Also, he said the water level of all reservoirs in the northern provinces of Thailand was too low now. Meanwhile, airplanes from the Royal Thai Air Force will be scheduled to begin their mission in order to reduce the number of hailstones during hailstorms in local areas at the beginning of April as royally commanded by His Majesty the King, said Mr Somchai. thainews.prd.go.th
