CHIANG RAI Doctor stabbed to death in car park as she leaves hospital

    CHIANG RAI MURDER INVESTIGATION
Doctor stabbed to death in car park as she leaves hospital
    THEERAWAT KHAMTHITA

Chiang Rai _ A radiologist died after she was stabbed as she was leaving Overbrook hospital in downtown Chiang Rai yesterday. Police investigators said the assailant, believed to be a young man, may have tried to abduct Dr Waewdao Techawattanakul, 40, but she resisted and so he stabbed her in the chest with a carving knife.

The dead woman's husband, Dr Thanyapong Techawattanakul, runs a cosmetic surgery clinic in central Chiang Rai. They own a large house in a suburb of the municipality.

Police said a young man carrying a backpack was seen running from the basement car park of the hospital around the time of the attack. The killer was still at large last night.

Nurse Arthichon Kammongkol found Waewdao on the stairs to the car park. She was bleeding profusely and was rushed to an intensive care unit. She was later pronounced dead.

A knife believed to have been used in the murder was discovered near the stairs.
Police said the attacker had applied sticky tape to the handle of the doors of Waewdao's parked car to prevent her getting into it, and had released air from the tyres

Killer says sorry to doctor's Family

The man arrested for the murder of a radiologist says the killing was an accident and he meant only to teach the woman a lesson for embarrassing him.He apologised to his victim's family.

Kwanchai Khammeesawang, 32, has been charged with the July 15 stabbing death of Overbrook Hospital radiologist Dr Waewdao Techawattanakul.

He told a police news conferฌence he attempted to abduct the 40yearold doctor in retaliation for cutting him off with her car and then shouting at him.

When he attempted to abduct her from the hospital's parking building in central Chiang Mai she struggled and screamed. Kwanchai stabbed her in the chest with a knife, then fled.

Following the killing Kwanchai continued working for two weeks until he believed the police were about to arrest him, then fled to Khon Kaen.

"I take responsibility for my actions and accept I will be punฌished for my crime. I apologise to the family of Dr Waewdao. I did not intend to kill her but just teach her a lesson for scolding me," he said.

Provincial police region 5 deputy commissioner MajGeneral Panthawat Sriwalai said forensic evidence from the scene and witness accounts led to the arrest.

Kwanchai was taken into cusฌtody at a relative's house in Kranuan district of Khon Kaen.

The crime was reenacted yesterday afternoon.

Hang on a minute. What is this guy's problem?! He apologises and takes responsibility????

Where the hell are his parents to do that for him!?

He is setting a bad precedent for all would-be killers in Thailand by accepting responsibility for his own actions.

True, old habits die hard . . . excuse the pun. Maybe he is like the missing link in Thai evolution.

I see a problem with your Theory of Evolution...

Isn't there a case to be made that this guy is actually a throwback? An anomaly or an unexpected mutation?

I mean it did take him a full 2 weeks before the 'run away & hide' gene/reflex kicked in so that tends to indicate he's somewhat removed from the normal Thai. Or just exceptionally dim.

^Actually in that light your theory makes perfect sense.

There are two branches of the Thai-Homosapien family:

    1) Homodimius;
    2) Homodimiusmaximus.

Both seperate and distinct, yet evolving simultaneously together over the same period.

Was the victim wearing an Buddha amulet/talisman?

I believe the answer to that question must be a resounding yes, because if not, the local fleecing station would make sure to publicise it...

The courts don't usually apply the death penalty to those who've made a full confession and contrition. That's probably the motivation here.
