    Boonpawat Apartments - Chiang Mai

Now this is the place Frankie sorted out for us, at 400baht per night this place is a bargain, it is just off the ring road at the base of the old mountain, Doi Suthep.

It is four stories high and about 20 rooms per floor, off street car parking covered and uncovered.

The only complaint was some whinger complaining the beds were too hard.

Anyway if your going to chang Mai this is the place to stay, it has aircon and fans in the rooms, hot water, balconey, cable tv, ADSL in all rooms, fridge etc etc etc.

Is it out past the uni? That mountain range looks familiar (stared at whilst waiting for the Songtaew to leave for the mountains outside the uni)

Pretty much Smeg, but not quite that far out.
the mountain range is Doi Suthep.

I thought so. I didn't make it to Doi Suthep in the end, as the songtaew driver was giving me the "500 Baht and we go now, or you wait long time" routine. It was probably fair enough, but seemed a little scammy at the time.

I'll be in CM for about a week next month. Is this a practical place for this short of a stay or is it too far out??

It might be a bit far out, it's about a 10 minute songtaew ride into the central area.
Think Frankie did a decent review of ChiangMai guest hopuses as part of the TD gathering in ChiangMai thread.

it's about halfway between CMU and the old city. The street I'm just off has no Motorcy
taxis and rarely gets a Songteaw. There are some nice folks around thqat will usually offer you a ride Bok soi (about 1 Km) to the "super hiway" where you'll find a Songt teaw soon enough it's a 15 - 20 baht ride into the old city.

I walk into the old city to vist friends quite often. The walk takes about an hour or so. The ride 10 minutes. If you're only gonna be here a few days you may want something closer to old town. if you rent a motorbike from CMN you could stay here and be minutes from town yet avoid the tuk- tuk drivers, tour touts and whatnot. Plenty of places to grab a bite (strictly Thai) or a beer. it's got (limited) UBC air and it's CLEAN.

It was nice of him to forget his blue bomb out at my place for us to play with wasn't it? The lake rd was such a nice place to practice wheelies, burnouts and doughnuts...

That was funny though when we had to fish it out of the lake, shouldn't really jump off of bikes whilst doing a wheely

The Tug--o'-war with the baby elephant was fun though.

it's a five minute walk to central. can't remember the name of the street but ecc lang school is on the same road. 400 baht a night. a/c, sat tele and a fridge. good value, and , not included in the 400 baht. they have a restaurant for brekky downstairs. pretty cheap for a full brekky. stayed there about 6 times now. won't stay anywhere else. do a google. sorry. don't have a link.
