I went to Thailand 2 years ago, and absolutely loved it. I was there for 19 days. (9 days I was on a tour, 10 days I was on my own.) During the tour we went to lots of Wats, Kanchanaburi, and Chiang Mai. During the time on my own, I mostly hiked around Bangkok. I stayed at Sacha's Hotel Uno (Sukhumvit Soi 19), and really liked that hotel. With the sky train and subway at the end of the block, it was very convenient.
What should I do on this year's trip? I'll be there for a month, from mid-November to mid-December.
I have a couple of friends who want to take me down to Pattaya for a few days, and I plan to do the usual stuff plus some go kart racing there. I contacted one of the guides/ friends from my previous trip to arrange a trip down to Phuket for a couple of days (including a junk boat cruise), and probably back up to Chiang Mai/ Chiang Rai to visit a couple of old favorite spots. That part might take a week. So, aside from those 7-10 days, I have the rest of the month available.
So, with that info... What would you suggest for places to stay and things to do? I'm not opposed to staying somewhere else in the city, or moving around during the trip. In fact, I don't even need to stay in BKK- I'm more than willing to spend time in other cities, etc. if it is easy for me to get there. I don't need a high end hotel, just someplace clean and secure. I'd like to attend some kind of sporting event, even if it is just some Muay Thai. I'm very flexible, so I'm open to just about anything.
I can't wait to get back to Thailand... What a great place!
