    London Hotels

    Hi All,

Before I start I have checked the hundreds of "hotel websites" and I know there are some deals out there. What I want is some recommendations from people at Teakdoor who have stayed in London recently. I just need a room for three nights early July. I dont need five stars but I also dont want to share a bathroom with some back packers. Somewhere close to the city/tube would be nice. Taking the missus to do the tourist photo shoots for the first time.

Any Ideas, Thanks in advance, TP

^ I would rather stay in Richmond, North Yorks where we will be leaving to do the trip. I cant agree more but it really does need to be done.

Hotels in London are all expensive ,or out of the way have dirty pokey rooms ,or all the above .
Last time i stayed in a travelodge near Kings Cross train station ,tiny room , window only opened a few inches so was hot as hell in the heatwave ,
ignorant pakis etc on reception .
other times just stayed student halls while they are on vacation basic but clean , too expensive for backpackers eg
LSE central London accommodation – Bankside House, Southbank
But i always booked the hotels at the last minuet ,if you can get a good deal in advance go for it . you can get a rough idea by looking at customer reviews for the hotels at trip adviser Holiday Reviews - Hotels, Resorts and Holiday Packages - TripAdvisor

Depends on your budget, but the Hilton at Paddington is a great and convenient hotel for town and Heathrow.

I stayed in one of these a while back, not a bad price, not so close to the station if you have a load of cases.

There's a ton more of differing size and price on this map:

A lot of these foreign owned "hotels" charge 100 quid for a room from which they've clearly taken the mops and buckets out and stuck a kids bed in.

I got a good deal at the Hyde Park Hilton through the BBC Proms, but I doubt that's much help.

Oh, it was about 15 years ago, so that's even less help.

Have a nice trip and can you send me back some fog?

I'd agree with that but there are 2 Paddington Hiltons, this is the nicer of the two Hilton London Paddington Hotel, 146 Praed Street, Paddington, London
The other is the Metropole (i think) and isn't as good

I stayed in the Park Lane Hilton which is walking distance to just about everything and they have the best buffet British breakfast in the world.

Just the saving of time and taxi fares is worth the extra room rate.

I tried lastminute.com and booked a room at the London Serviced Aparthotel in W1 at £65 a night. The spec looks pretty good but I haven't been yet. Most other prices look plain silly, especially compared with the value you get in Thailand.

Am going to town to give a talk about Jack Reynolds, author of the 1956 novel, "A Woman of Bangkok". He spent six years in China doing relief work (no jokes please!) before settling in Bangkok. There's more about him on my blog a year or so down.

    .
For this to work a car is needed as the trains don't connect well. I never looked into the bus.

Drive out of London to Henley on Thames and stay at the great old hotel just over the bridge. One saves about 90% over London hotel prices.

too right Trip advisor does allow negative comments ,take the Red lion above

'''One to avoid at all costs. The room marketed to us a double was in fact two single beds pushed together (not even fastened together). When lying on the bed they parted like the Red Sea causing us to disappear through the gap....''''

sounds like its also run by Eastern Europeans ,they are the rudest scum.

what room rate did you pay WHO ?
