Try Garah or Mungindi. On the way to Roma, Qld, oilfields. Or, if you dont mind losing your thongs/flipflops on a regular basis, Boggabilla.

Cannot rent even a room in a house for $300 p/m in Aussie Socal.

You could tip that wheelie bin on its side and put a sleeping bag inside it. Probably have blown away when you get back from work though since it is in Perth.
It looks like Aussies are in for a reality check. These prices are totally fucked.

I can rent a room in Edmonton for $500 a month and people around here are paid well.

not sure, maybe its more down to exchange rates
think it just seems expensive in Australia to us , because thier dollar has got so strong over the last few years.
the min wage there is $14 .31 an hour
which too seems very high , in Britain its £6 or about $9

No I think you are in for reality check, as for Edmonton how the fok can you compare it to Australia ?
And I was suprised to find seal bashers work for fok all and are a bit like indians, cheap labour.
But you get what you pay for, bit like yanks and cant get over that the whole world doesnt revolve around canada

It was not a nationalist comment, I am just saying that aussies are paying too much of their income to housing historically , plain and simple. Canada is too.

Green service rig hands get $30.00 an hour and the Cad is worth more then the US dollar.

As far as I can tell, oilfield and mine work pays better in canada then auss yet housing is auss is more overpriced then canada.

Basically the only reason I want to move is to be closer to Thailand, Bali and S korea to save on airfare. Turns out that housing costs will more then eat up the difference. Plus, if I was to ever get serious with an Asian girl. Australia would be a more natural move.

Oh, well. looks like i will have to wait for the housing bubble to implode.
