    Moving possessions to Thailand

I will be moving to LOS in about a years time. At the moment I'm ebaying lots of my possessions. However someone said they had heard of removal firms in the UK that -for a cost of approx £100 will supply and transport 4 teachest sized crates to Thailand. Anyone heard of this?

You won't get them down your stairs for £100.

I sent a 20-foot container which cost £2000 from my front door to Bangkok. I can't remember the exact cost but getting the stuff from my flat to the container outside cost something like £800.

And then there is the import duty if you get a cranky customs officer!!
If the wife is Thai and she has been and expat for two years you can bring all the stuff in for free.

^ I can't remember what the wording is for what you're allowed but it's something like 'goods sufficient for your household'. What that means depends on how hungry the guy at customs feels, I'd imagine.

    Seven Seas UK

Try the above. They only ship small items, not furniture. Tea chest size boxes and book boxes plus items like TVs, golf bags, guitars but nothing bigger.
Prices are reasonable for door to port. This only works if your Thai wife/partner has been in UK for a year or more and can go with you to pick up the stuff from the docks.
Door to door, forget it; customs, duty, paperwork, import forms, handling agents etc make it a joke and effing expensive at this end.

    Kwan,

I'm not in UK but USA. I just sent a 20 foot container to Thai from US in my Thai wife's name as she meets the free customs criteria. I packed and wrapped everything myself. 3 movers inventoried everything, loaded into container, and shiped to Thai for about $6,000 US. Not sure what that converts to in Euro or pounds (quid)....

One can get almost anything they want in Thai but I have lots of books, cooking stuff, momentos from all travels around the globe, patio furniture, and some other items that are too expensive or can not get in Thai.

We shipped a 6 cubic meter wooden box containing 48 110 liter packing boxes door-to-door from Denmark to Ban Chang. Shipping cost was about £1600 and the only extras in Thailand was 1400 b. for storage and a small handling fee. The box was not opened at the customs.

The only needed documents was wifeys passports, new and old in original (no copies), to prove that she's been living outside Thailand (15 years).
Serious cooking can't be left to women.

I shipped some boxes from the U.K. last year, had been recommended Intercargo:

I found them extremely helpful, efficient and inexpensive. Their agent at Suvarnabhumi was also 'on the ball'!

If you have important shit to move then OK. Otherwise, keep it simple and just pay extra baggage. The only thing i regret leaving is my books. But someone will prof on that so i don't care. The life and the people are more important than posesssions.
