Pattaya would be a good option - then maybe off to Koh Larn or Koh Samet from there?
I'm glad someone pointed that out.Originally Posted by klongmaster
From Hua Hin I'd go across to Koh Tao. Very chilld out and would suit the olds.
Koh Chang is the opposite direction to hua hin.Originally Posted by phuketbound
You may want to consider what is locally know as "Soi Guest House" located right next to the Marriot Resort and Spa in Hua Hin.
Here are a number of minor almost identical guest houses - although they these days use the name "hotels".
We stayed at the Thipurai Beach Hotel last year. .: Thipurai Beach Hotel :. slept 3 adults and 2 children in a large room for 1.800 bht including breakfast. The standard and the prices between the various guest houses in this soi I`ve found very similar.
There is approx. 100 metres to the beach from here and the beach here is far superior to the one situated next Hilton.
There is a restaurant right on the beach where you can sit and enjoy a sundowner watching the sun set.
If a nice pool is a requirement, you should probably look for something else, `cause the 7-8 guest houses in this soi only has one not very attractive pool to share.
I was to Koh Chang and Koh Phayam in Ranong with my son, but that was 7 years ago, so take it for what it is worth.
I would describe them as backpacker islands. Nothing wrong with that.
Koh Chang is quite mountainous with impressive virgin forest. All the bungalows were concentrated on one side of the island facing the Andaman.
Koh Phayam had cashew nut and rubber plantations and seemed a bit more developed.
Both had very nice beaches. Accomos were basic, but very cheap.
Good fishing in this area, I watched daily people returning from angler trips in longtails bringing in their catch.
What did dissappoint me a bit considering these islands are in the Andaman was that the water visibility was not that great. Mayby sediment being flushed out from the river La-Un to the north or just a seasonal thing (december).
Never found any corals on either island.

Koh Chang ticks about all of the boxes. White Sand Beach - the best beach. Countryside outstanding. Elephants available. Have seen monkeys in the trees. There are 'Girly Bars' there but situated at one end and no reason to walk past them. In the evening I head for Oodies Live Music Bar. Excellent musicians dropping in. Blues, rock R&B etc. I'm a tad older than The "oldies" with you and I love it. If money is no object you could fly down to Trat (Trad).
So just got a weather report in from Koh Lanta and apparently it's raning a lot, overcast and rough seas. So that's gotta be caneclled, and if so then there's no point going Hua Hin.
So, following the easy route think will go Koh Chang tomorrow, and maybe island hop a little bit from there.
Been recommended Kai Bae which is supposed to be not too developed on one hand, and not too backpacker style on the other but a decent inbetween.
Anybody been Kai Bae?
What other islands should Ihop off to from there? Koh Kud maybe?

PM Pickel as he seems to be the expert regarding the Koh Chang/ Trad area.
Don't forget to take some warm clothes as "ITS COLD DOWN THIS WAY" especially during the evenings!
Cheers LT, Pickel has be giving me the lowdown via PM and will no doubt be getting a call from me sometime tomorrow to bug him for some more info. Very helpful guy actually.
I would https://teakdoor.com/thailands-beache...d-in-trat.html
I was in Koh Chang 2 weeks ago. You dont need to go further south from White Sand Beach than Klong Prao to find nice, uncrowded accomodation at the beach. We stayed at KP Huts.
White Sand Beach is Patong Beach these days, can`t believe what it has come into.
Are the family enjoying their holiday maddy?
