It's been about 7 years since I visited Guadeloupe, FWI and I was thinking about going back for a week or so.
Has anyone been there recently? I generally go to St. Anne, and stay at either the Club Med (best beach) or in town.

Why Guadeloupe, is it good compared to Thai beaches ? Do they speak English ?
Having traveled to some of the nicest beaches in the world (including Bora Bora, the Italian Rivera, and dozens of Caribbean beaches), the best beach I have ever experienced is Carravelle near Saint Anne, Guadeloupe.
The beach is on a bend, with one side perfect for wind surfing and the other side consisting of a large lagoon (3-10 feet deep) that is perfect for snorkeling.
The beach is a mixture of coconut palms, spaced about 10-15 feet apart and white sand, giving plenty of natural shade and sunshine.
As a Region de France, it is packed with French ladies; almost all of them are topless and a few bottomless as well. Unlike the old women you see so often plodding about in Phuket; many of these are very beautiful.
French is the official language, but English is also commonly spoken. The fool is also great (let's face it the French know how to enjoy life).
Just my opinion of course.
