    last weeks concerts

Two concerts were govt funded, and both anti drugs. Bizarrely the Police one had no information on drugs at all apart from two joke comments from the stage. Both were held at universities.
Mangpor at the Police concert. Many singers change at least one name for good luck. Some of these new names are of animals or insects, mangpor is a dragonfly but there are singers named ant (0h no) squid, rabbit, grasshoper and so on. Elvis would not have gotten far if he had been called Squid Presley, but here there is a Gung Suttirat. Taking the name of your home town or area is also popluar, e.g. Appaporn Nakhonsawan, Sunaree Rachesima or Honnee Sri Issan, few use their own names.

Another druggie concert, one of the very few times I have seen Muslims at a concert in Bkk, but it was at a Uni-the subversive devils! Maybe the govt should hold anti nose picking concerts, might have more of an effect. At least we all got T shirts

What day is it bit mixed up this one should have been before the last, never mind this was 94.5 concert on Sunday. Pee Sadeart is a Grammy act who really should be far wider known. He blends luktung, rock and morlam together in some
songs, in others he plays acoustic guitar and can do a very nce rendition of a Pumpuang classic like nakrawng banok. he might be going to Holland in the spring, wherever that is, for a Thai festival.

Radio station 94.5 have come up with a way of not having to pay for dancers-hold a dancing competition. My competition is the guess how many ladyboys are in this troupe, maybe that's why they did not win. Dancing comps are very popular with Schools.

I know this is Friday as I had to get up at six to get to the studio, did not get involved this time, last time was dragged up the stage to make an arse of myself, I find that quite easy. Chum Tang Seang Tong is a talent show that's on Thurs and Fri, think it's in it's 14th year. A few very famous names have won this contest, but X factor it is not. No matter how bad all singers seem to get 6.5-7.5 scores so no loss of face. Amazingly though they gave a poor guy 0 two weeks ago for missing his cue, bit harsh when it's recorded anyway, so maybe things are changing and will will end up with bust ups, tears and the judges telling them they are useless. Lovely programe by Nopporn Silver Gold company.

Three years ago Pong lan sa orn were the big new super act, three years on and the fickle Thai public seem to be a bit tired of them. Probably as they are stil doing much the same stuff and newer numbers are not quite up to the early stuff. I find they joke around a little too much. They are having one of those large paying concerts soon at Maungton Thani I expect. can never remember which girl is Lulu and which Lala, good to see once anyway. This was Saturday.

last and best of the week the amazing Banyen Raggen, a real magician, and true expert (mor) lam. She is 58 next month but still puts some of the younger singers in the shade, her dancing is the very finest and her morlam singing is truly marvelous. If I were 18 i'd describe her as 'awesome' Very exciting to see as not so many opportunities as before.
This is daughter Kandy, also DJ on fm 95, speaks perfect English as went to School in Melbourne, somewhere down under I believe. Kandy is a great dancer and very nice lady.

    Queen of Morlam, nuff said.

The amazing thing is all this stuff is free, you rarely have to pay for a concert, oh forgot 40 baht last week to see Sao Mart. Even off on a free trip trip to Nong Kai and Laos at the weekend, with a radio station and a group of singers. It has to be free with the state of the UK pound!
