Ive been speaking so some of the people involved and there's a simple and innocent explanation for everything. As a result of winning their bids to carryout work for the ministry of transport these business men had regular meetings with mr supoj and got to know its daughter. So when they heard about this beautiful relationship between miss supoj and her wonderful but poor boyfriend hitting the rocks because her father could not tolerate the loss of face that would be caused by not demanding the appropriate dowery for his daughters hand..... they felt they had to step in and help with the dowery.

As for the bank accounts. As a board member of thai international mr supoj got to know the former chairman mr wollop. mr wollop was planning a trip to japan to collect apples for his temple. he needed 60 suit cases and mr supoj opened the accounts to get the free suitcases to help mr wollop with his merit.

As you can see nothing suspicious and you should all feel ashamed for maligning such a fine example of thailands hiso pond life

Supoj Did Not Show Up For Testimony, And Next Meeting Is On Jan 12

    UPDATE : 28 December 2011

In progress of the bribery probe into the ex-transport permanent-secretary's wealth, the investigation committee chairman disclosed that Ex-Transport permanent secretary failed to make appearance for his first testimony.

His representative explained that Supoj is now on vacation abroad and asked to postpone the testifying to January 12 next year.

The chairman of the investigation committee, Professor Thongthong Chantarangsu who is in charge in the investigation into a claim that Transport permanent secretary Supoj Saplom is unusually wealthy.

He disclosed that Supoj failed to make appearance for the first testimony, which means Supoj has made the first postponement.

However, Supoj has submitted a proxy letter, letting Kraimet Worasarin to be his representative.

Kraimet submitted a letter, explaining reasons Supoj's failing to attend the first arrangement.

The letter says that Supoj is on his vacation in abroad between December 18 to 30, and that he asked to postpone the testimony.

Thongthong has again sent a letter to state a new meeting date, which is on January 12, 2012.

He believes that Supoj will make appearance this time for testimony.

He further said that the major subject is that the board is willing to hear Supoj's clarification on the exact amount of lost money as Supoj reported 5 million baht in cash was stolen, while police have retrieved more than 18 million baht.

No - I'll bet he comes back. He has nothing to fear. The Pooyais to whom he answers would never let him end up in jail - that would be a massive loss of face for them (e.g. unable to tend to their sheep). The judges will be instructed accordingly. He'll be back.

AMLO seeks probe into Suphoth's finances - The Nation

AMLO seeks probe into Suphoth's finances

    The Nation January 6, 2012 1:00 am

The AntiMoney Laundering Office (AMLO) will propose to the transaction committee an official probe be held into Transport permanentsecretary Suphoth Sublom's financial transactions, AMLO acting secretary Pol Col Sihanat Prayoonrat said yesterday.

On January 31, AMLO officials would present to the committee the initial findings of Suphoth's financial transactions along with a probe result by the Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission, he said.

Sihanat said he didn't have details of NCCC's findings but, if the NCCC found Supoth's assets were gained from corruption, it would lead to an asset seizure.

If NCCC couldn't determioe the assets came from corruption, the AMLO would be authorised to trace Supoth's financial transactions in detail.

Supoth's case became famous after a gang of burglars in November allegedly stole Bt100 million in cash from his Bangkok home. Police so far have retrieved some Bt20 million of the cash - an amount much larger than that Supoth initially told police.

The AMLO will also seek to trace the financial transactions of Bangkok's Tao Poon gambling den. A raid on the den last month led to the arrest of over 100 gamblers, which placed it within the frame of antimoneylaundering law violations, Sihanat added.

It will be a long road, in a nation where corruption is thoroughly institutionalised. But it has to start somewhere. This 'Thaksin corrupt' mantra- while true- is just a smokescreen really. Perhaps I am crediting them with more brains than they actually possess, but I can't help thinking it is deliberate. The Chinese art of Diversion and the Lie in action. For a modern snapshot of classic Chinese mentality, read "Thick Face, Black Heart".

Your post relates well to "Thick face, black heart" philosophy.
A friend of mine, a wealthy Chinese Thai lady told me the same.

I know a wealthy chinese-thai woman who smiles all the time too. She's a stunned cnut - a dear in the headlamps. Perhaps her father or g'father made all the money. But she smiles and "no one knows what it means" either. Because it doesn't mean anything. But let's get all mystic about the jeks, shall we?

The one I referred to is no dummy, she's one of the few very intelligent Thais that I have met, a university lecturer and hospital administrator, with her own personally acquired business wealth.
I work for her and her family from time to time as a business advisor.

Suphoth faces grilling - The Nation

    Suphoth faces grilling

    The Nation January 11, 2012 1:00 am

Suphoth Sublom, the suspended permanent secretary of the Transport Ministry, has been summoned for questioning tomorrow over the alleged theft of Bt18.1 million in cash from his home.

Thongthong Jantharangsu, permanent secretary of the PM's Office, will supervise the interview, which was rescheduled when Suphoth postponed a meeting on December 27.

If Suphoth does not turn up or simply stays put, he would be reported to his superior, now Banthoon Suphakkhawanich, the PM's secretary-general.

The Anti-Money Laundering Office has been tracing the money stolen from his Bangkok home to see whether some of it represented kickbacks from construction companies to Suphoth for winning infrastructure contracts.

AMLO will meet on January 31 to report to its board the progress on its investigation. The board will decide whether the companies should be named publicly and summoned for interviews.

Wang Thonglang police have interviewed the three maids at Suphoth’s home who were gagged and tied up by the burglars during the heist. An officer said the three eyewitnesses had provided useful information on the case.

The maids' testimonies are going to be interesting reading, being the only victims and witnesses to what happened in the house that night.

Loyalties may be divided in their case.

I don't envy their positions at all.

I don't think Supoj is going to change his style at this stage of his life.

He'll continue to be as slippery and evasive as he's always been, as he appears to be a total stranger to the truth.

Police Question Maids in Former Transport Permanent Secretary Burglary Case

    UPDATE : 12 January 2012

The police have questioned three maids who work under the former Transport Permanent Secretary about the burglars who allegedly stole money from his home, asking the maids to describe their appearance and the vehicles they used.

Wang Thong Lang Police Station Chief, Police Major Tawat Wongsangar, revealed that he recently ordered officers to interrogate the maids of former Transport Permanent Secretary Supoj Saplom to complete the investigation.

The investigation will be ready to be turned over to the district attorney by next week after more forensic evidence has been examined.

The Wang Thong Lang police station and the Metropolitan Police Bureau continue to search for the group leader of the burglary, Wirasak Cheulee or Koh, and two other suspects.

Wang Thong Lang Police Station Deputy Chief, Police Lieutenant Sophon Yanatham also questioned three more maids who work for Supoj Saplom.

They were also asked to describe the burglars' appearances the vehicle they used.

However, the police did not question the maids about the amount of the money that was stolen.

This responsibility will fall under the Committee of National Anti-Corruption, or NACC, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office.

Supoj ruled to be 'unusually rich'

Permanent secretary for transport Supoj Saplom has been found by a subcommittee of the National Anti-Corruption Commission to be unusually wealthy, NACC spokesman Klanarong Chanthik said on Thursday.

He said Mr Supoj would be summonsed to hear the charge of being unusually wealthy on Jan 23 at the NACC office in Nonthaburi.

The subcommittee had examined 36 statements of assets and liabilities, filed with the NACC by Mr Supoj before his house was robbed on Nov 12 last year, and three others filed after the robbery. It found that some of Mr Supoj's assets and liabilities were worth much higher than declared.

"From the finding and the 18 million baht cash retrieved by police after the robbery, the subcommittee made a resolution to investigate Mr Supoj for being unusually wealthy," Mr Klanarong said.

If Mr Supoj failed to report to the NACC as summonsed, the agency would send a letter to his permanent address to notify him of the charge. After that he would be given 15 days to submit a defence statement, he added.

Mr Klanarong said Mr Supoj had his representative submit an assets and liabilities statement to the NACC on Jan 10.

In the statement, Mr Supoj said that before the robbery he had 5.008 million baht which he received on the Saturday morning of Nov 12 from his daughter. He said his daughter asked him to keep the money, a dowry for her marriage, in the house.

Mr Supoj said he planned to deposit the money in a bank when it opened on an official work day.

Mr Klanarong said the subcommittee was considering whether to also charge Mr Supoj with filing false declarations of assets and liabilities.

Mr Supoj's house was robbed on the night of Nov 12 when a wedding party was held for his daughter at a hotel. On that night, a group of men broke into the house and took away bags full of cash.

Mr Supoj reported to police that 5 million baht went missing. But when two suspects were arrested three days later they told police they saw a cash worth between 700 million baht and 1 billion baht in the house.

When seven more alleged accomplices were later arrested, police recovered from them more than 18 million baht. This put Mr Supoj under suspicion.

Mr Supoj was subsequently transferred to an active post at the Prime Minister's Office pending investigation.
