Pheu Thai seeks dissolution of Dem, BJT

Bangkok Post : P.Thai seeks dissolution of Dem, BJT

P.Thai seeks dissolution of Dem, BJT

The Pheu Thai Party on Thursday filed a petition asking the Election Commission to dissolve the Democrat and Bhumjaithai parties.

In the petition filed by Pheu Thai representative Pornchai Korwattanamadol and lawyers, Abhisit Vejjajiva, the prime minister and Democrat Party leader, and Porntiva Nakasai, the commerce minister and Bhumjaithai Party secretary-general, organised a "blue flag" sale of low-priced products on June 26, the advance voting day, in the compound of the city hall of Samut Prakan.

Since both Mr Abhisit and Mrs Porntiva are party executives and candidates in the July 3 election, the sale might be considered vote-buying in a hidden form, the petition says.

The Pheu Thai Party asked the EC to investigate it and propose the Constitution Court to dissolve the two parties.

Mr Pornchai handed over to the EC CDs of the sale of low-priced products.

Mr Abhisit's election has also been suspended by the EC pending investigation into the "blue flag" sale of low-priced goods in Samut Prakan.

Mr Abhisit said in a separate interview that he was not worried by this matter, saying that sale of low-priced goods under the "blue flag" project has been carried out by Commerce Ministry officials throughout the country under a cabinet resolution to help alleviate the people's cost of living.

The sale in Samut Prakan was carried out by permanent officials and no politicians were involved, he said.
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

And the PAD are seeking to dissolve everyone.

So, if all of the cases were to go ahead, then there would be no one to govern.

    Woohooo! Isn't it fun here.

I hoped that they would not stoop to the Democrat Party level, but it is understandable given the position they are in.

No there is a lot of difference, though some common Thai traits comes through which is disappointing and puts them back to square 1.

No, it's not "disappointing" if you have the insight to understand that there isn't a difference. Naturally, it's in many a nature to manufacture a fuzzy logistic towards separation of political identity. The false promotions of good vs. evil, us vs. them, mine vs. yours fits perfectly into the controllers plan. Continue to promote such "differences" and most are willing to follow - bumpkin or scholar, most are accepting to buy the line. And the dirty work continues behind the curtain.

It was a stupid move IMO. They've taken the bait - and helped the right-wingers make the case for intervention.

But this is a country that will believe that protestors lost limbs to faulty tear gas cannisters. And that a PM should be banned because he appeared on a cooking show and that another former PM should be jailed for 2 years for signing the standard form that acknowleges his wife is buying land.

There is NO case for anything other than a majority elected government taking its seats in the Parliament and anyone getting in the way of that needs to be arrested immediately. No matter how important they are (or think they are).

I sense a Pinochet move coming..
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

Yep. Pointless. Bad move. No need to acknowledge the childish antics of the army/blublood/dems; this is the first bad move they've made in 3-4 weeks.

    This is nothing new.

It's the Golden Rule of Post Election Thai Politics and has been for a long time.

Once you win, get rid of the opposition as fast as you can.

It's been happening since 1932 and frankly some of the replies here make most of you sound like typically clueless bar stool "experts"...

^ there is no clear winner of this election yet. A long-term expert such as yourself must see that...

Au contraire, yes there IS a clear winner of this election. What is NOT clear is whether the corrupt elites who think this is exclusively THEIR country are willing to allow the winner their rightful place in government. Not clear at all.

Time for the international actors to WAKE THE FUCK UP!

The reason "Democracy" in Thailand simply doesn't (and probably never will) work is because Thai politics is just a constant clash of the elite factions while they try and establish a new political Dynasty.

Disagree. While you're right to say the political struggle at the top of each pyramid is indeed elites battling for the spoils, for the first time in living memory this country has a mass population ready to demand and fight for its say. Unprecedented in Thai history.

That post would make sense if it were a move to get rid of the Democrat party. Of course it is not as the jucicial process is massively stacked against Puea Thai. It is simply an exercise in showing that again. If it is a good idea I don't know.

They certainly would have prefered it if things hadn't come to this, especially so quickly but as you say , if they try to take the ' moral highground ' they will be wasting their time because there is no such place in Thai politics.

When they were in opposition , they did everything they could to make life difficult for the Democrats so they must know they can expect to be paid out in the same coin , in spades.

That being the case what else can they do except use the same tactics that are going to be used against them with a view to making the water as muddy as possible so that everyone is covered in the same dirt. That way, if every case against them succeeds and all their own flounder it will just serve to illustrate to the electorate how corrupt the whole ediface has become and how little regard those with power have for their vote.

This in itself willl serve a purpose because the sanctimonious military will find it more difficult to act in such an atmosphere of blatant bias. They would have everyone think they are the only patriots and that every intervention is a noble gesture to save the country , whereas nothing could be further from the truth.

    Pheu Thai strikes back

    Pheu Thai strikes back

    By Prapasri Osathanon,
    Atapoom Ongkulna
    The Nation
    Published on July 15, 2011

Party files dissolution case against the Democrats and Bhum Jai Thai

Another party dissolution case has been filed with the Election Commission, this time by the Pheu Thai Party against the Democrat and Bhum Jai Thai parties because of a government trade fair held near an election venue on advance voting day.

Meanwhile, the first "yellow card" has been given to Pheu Thai MP candidate Somkid Banthaisong, who won the most votes in Nong Khai's Constituency 2. EC member Sodsri Satayathum said the EC had voted 3:2 to order a new election in the constituency. The two EC members suggested he be disqualified.

EC investigators found video clips and witnesses, including red-shirt supporters, confirming that Somkid gave money to tricycle-taxi riders to transport eligible voters to his election rally, she said.
The EC may announce a fresh election for the constituency to take place on July 31, she said.

In the latest dissolution case, Pheu Thai's Pornchai Korwattanamadol and lawyer Sila Thongkham yesterday asked the EC to disqualify the Democrats' top party-list candidate and ex-party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, the outgoing prime minister. Also targeted was Bhum Jai Thai's Chainat MP candidate Porntiva Nakasai, the outgoing commerce minister.

Pheu Thai alleged that consumer products at the trade fair were sold at unusually low prices. This could be seen as indirect vote-buying. The parties should be dissolved due to their attempts to draw votes unconstitutionally, the complaint said. The Commerce Ministry on June 26 held a trade fair at Samut Prakan city hall, which was near a polling station.

Abhisit yesterday said he was confident he could defend himself against the accusation. The fair, held by the Commerce Ministry, was run by government officials without the involvement of political office holders. The Cabinet merely outlined principles for the programme, but officials took charge of it, Abhisit said.

The Cabinet meeting on that day also made it clear politicians must stay away from the event, he said. "It had nothing to do [with the election]", he said. "It was a trade fair organised by government agencies that are responsible for solving people's problems. Whatever the agencies did, they would be blamed anyway," he said.

The fresh party dissolution case adds to a number of complaints made to the EC. Sila and another Pheu Thai Samut Prakan MP candidate, Naruemon Tarndamrong, earlier this week asked the EC to investigate and disqualify Abhisit and Porntiva as MP candidates, citing the same event.

This aint any move from PT, this is straight from the post election strategy of one Robert Amsterdam.

No fuss about the incident at pre election, just noted , recorded, and launched at the right time with devastating effect

The PAD loonies just dont realise who they are dealing with.
