EC chairman Apichart Sukhagganond said the centre, manned by the agency's staff in legal and other fields, is opened daily between June 1-July 8 from 8.30am to 8.30pm.

People who have information on electoral fraud can also call 02-1419470 to 76 and 02-141-8045 to 51 or send messages to Facebook:detective.ect[at]hotmail.com or twitter:detective_ect.
I am told that reporting of vote buying would only be acted upon vigorously when PT is the transgressor.

She tells me that if I think Thailand is normal in this regard and this reporting framework is to be taken at face value, to think again.

Then it is I using the wrong term. In last election they used "areas". There were 8 (see map). I should have said area, not constituency.

I've posted a question about this on the original New Mandala piece.
I got back what seems to be an authoritative answer. The list "regions" are gone - i.e. all list votes cast anywhere count towards a national total for each of the parties.

Yes, emphatically. If not the domestic response will be predictable- and warranted. The international response will not be the same as the previous shameful hypocricy either- Thailand would now become a pariah state. The fundamental criteria for Thailand to move beyond it's current quasi 'banana republic' status is for the Military to be removed from politics, once and for all.

They may accept it at first but have a court kick out the PM for jaywalking or speeding or actually proof he/she is corrupt. A court decision would not make Thailand a phariah state. Violence on the streets wouldn't help it's image, but the international community has a short memory.

The military will not be removed from politics because both major parties continue to involve them.

Abhisit faces 2 red-shirt women in at Silom

    1 June 2011

    By The Nation

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva Wednesday met two red-shirt women while he was campaigning for his party on Silom Road.

Abhisit received warm welcomes from shoppers and vendors on Soi Lalaisup when he campaigned at there at 11:30 am.

Then he noticed two women carrying the Voice of Thaksin magazine whose cover showed the people killed during the crackdown on May 19 last year.

Abhisit walked to talk to the women to talk to them. The women said they wanted to demand for justice for the people killed during the crackdown.

Abhisit replied that the loss of lives occurred because the men in black attacked troops.

But the two women argued by asking the prime minister why he did not order the troops to stop shooting.

Abhisit replied that the troops were ordered to stop but they could not pull out because they were surrounded by black-shirt fighters.

Abhisit said the authorities had no reason to harm the people.

He added that the people killed in the Pathum Wanaram Temple were not killed by troops because the protest had already stopped.

Abhisit said not only red-shirt people were killed but also the authorities and he was sorry for the loss.

The women appeared calm down following the talk and said they did not want to see Thais kill one another.

Bangkok Post : UDD wants to observe elections

    Breakingnews >
The United front for Democracy against Dictatorship will tomorrow ask the Election Commission whether it can send observers to all polling stations on July 3, UDD chairwoman Thida Thavornseth said on Wednesday.

Ms Thida said the UDD wanted to take part in overseeing the election. There will be about 90,000 polling units throughout the country.

If the EC agreed to its request, the UDD would make preparations to send observers to those polling units, she said.

The UDD would set up information centres in Bangkok and other regions to monitor the election. All UDD members should prepare their cameras and tape recorders and study the election law to get prepare themselves for the observation role, she said.

Ms Thida said the UDD would next week set up a distance-learning school to inform people about election fraud techniques and how to prevent them, via its television channel Asia Update.

UDD spokesman Worawut Wichaidit asked red-shirts not to obstruct Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva or any other political party candidates from campaigning.

"Since Mr Abhisit stepped up to power with help from the military, he will not easily admit defeat.

"Therefore, there may be electoral fraud, or even a secret power, to help the Democrats win the election," he said.

^^^^Wow, a propaganda piece if I ever saw one. The one above with the "anointed one" trying to exonerate his military to two Red Shirt women, and his State Media dutifully reporting it as if his rationale was credible.

& totally out of line with the reports that the army didn't kill anyone. So, Abhisit agrees they killed people, but they were surrounded by black shirts... fuking unbelievable; these words of his should be plastered on every wall in the country...

Arguably, kudos to him in one respect - he's the one who reportedly went over to the two women and, presumably, he could have ignored them.

    But
I start to wonder whether he a] actually believes this stuff or b] wants to re-ignite the crackdown as a mainstream issue because he thinks that will help his numbers.

    ^ "presidential" campaign?

ABC goof? Does Yingluck appear/speak more than Abhisit does - and relative to their respective party reps?

^ the ABC presenter was useless, but to fair to her she probably had a 15 minute read of a sheet prepared by somebody else and had to go with that... Some of the Skynews and other presenters are hilarious - one the other day was asking a middleweight boxer if he'd fight Khan (much much smaller guy), and the boxer replied they wouldn't because they're very different weights, but the presenter kept on as if the boxer was making excuses... he had no idea...

This ABC presenter also framed the question about the PAD bomb, as if a red shirt had thrown it... no idea...
