Indonesian couples caned over extramarital affairs

Two couples were caned in Indonesia's staunchly Muslim Aceh province on Friday after being caught having extramarital affairs, a prosecutor said.

About two hundred people gathered after Friday prayers to watch the four people receive their allotted lashes at a mosque in the city of Jantho, southeast of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh.

Sudirman, 43, and Irdayanti, 34, receive nine lashes each.

"The reason for the harsh punishment is that both of them are already married to other people," prosecutor Bendry Almy said.

The other couple punished were Rudi Setia Yudda, 40, who received seven lashes, and 18-year old Nuramalia, who received four.

Nuramalia, who is married to another man, cried as the punishment was carried out and afterwards fainted. She was treated at a local hospital.

The crowd shouted at Sudirman and Yudda, saying their adulterous behavior had caused them to be flogged and asking that they be meted out extra lashes.

Aceh, on the northern tip of Sumatra island, is one of several areas in Muslim-majority Indonesia where Islamic sharia law has been adopted.

Caning as carried out there is mainly aimed at causing shame rather than injury.

In December, two people were caned in Aceh after being caught having an extramarital kiss.

Malaysian MP Says Men Have Affairs Because Wives 'Neglect' Their Duty in Bed

Malaysian men have extramarital sex because of “wives who neglect their responsibilities” to their husbands, a Malaysian lawmaker told Parliament on Thursday, outraging women’s groups.

“Husbands driving home after work see things that are sexually arousing and go to their wives to ease their urges,” said independent lawmaker Ibrahim Ali, according to online portal Malaysiakini.

“But when they come home to their wives, they will say, ‘wait, I’m cooking,’ or ‘wait, I’m getting ready to visit relatives’,” Ibrahim said.

“In Islam, wives are supposed to stop everything to fulfill their husband’s demands.”

Ali heads Perkasa, a right-wing Malay nationalist group seeking to protect ethnic Malay dominance in politics.

His strident comments came as he asked about plans by the government’s religious development department to educate wives on their responsibilities.

Wives failing in their duties pushed men to go to “private places to satisfy their urges”, he said.

An aide to the lawmaker confirmed the remarks but declined further comment.

His comments prompted fury among women’s groups in a nation with a growing sex industry and a problem with human trafficking.

Women’s Aid Organisation chief Ivy Josiah said Ibrahim’s comments were unacceptable for a parliamentarian.

“I am appalled as he equates women to being a sex toy and what is worse is that he uses religion to try and justify his position,” she told AFP.

“The comments not only show that Ibrahim Ali is a Malay supremacist but a male supremacist as well.”

Rights group Tenaganita, who monitor issues of human trafficking and abuse, said such sentiments were one of the causes of human trafficking in the country.

“Because people like Ibrahim Ali believe it is their right to get sex anytime from their wives, or otherwise seek it from elsewhere, that’s why you have a growing sex industry and we see such human trafficking cases,” senior coordinator Aegile fernandez told AFP.

Last March, the government launched a national plan against human trafficking as the country moves to quash its image as a transit point for traffickers.

With one of Asia’s largest populations of foreign labour, Malaysia relies on illegal and legal migrants to work as domestic servants, in plantations, factories and to service the local sex industry.

Malaysian lawmakers also clashed with women’s groups last month after a government parliamentarian claimed women were “slow” at the wheel and “oblivious” on the roads.

He does have a point, you spend a couple of hours driving up and down Soi Yodsak and see how you feel, can't blame some poor bloke for shagging other birds instead of his wife if she aint up for being tied down semi naked on an oil covered rubber mattress whilst your in your best batman suit, women need to learn about mens needs.

the first video is bad enough, with the whipper and his black executioners hood, even though the flogging is not that severe, but the second video is extremely disturbing and brutal, her screams and the whipping are horrific.

the comments from the malaysian mp show the contempt these animals have for their women. how we as westerners have been forced by political correctness and inclusiveness to show respect and tolerance for these people shows just how screwed up humanity has become.

Seems that empire caused Blighty many of the same problems that Merka is now enjoying. In the long haul, it's just too feckin' expensive to maintain. Many Merkans are waking up to this fact right now with the unbelievable deficits needed to maintain military bases in countries that do not need them. Empire was too expensive to maintain - that should put a stop to all this "taking all of our natural resources" crap", since the British Empire built infrastructure and brought the law to the world, sadly not all of 25% of earth surface British Empire controlled (85% pf naval command). This continues to this day UK just pays dev aid to Pakistan. To india, much more, but it is to be directed at places that their Indian crap covernment does not cover. UK must pay so children dont die - that was Camerons dilemma. So Cameron was not in the wrong approving this.

Someone must have squealed on them to get caught. Canning should be reserved for the squealer and the number of required cannings would be substancially reduced.
