Go the khmers,we will whip your arse.
If the thais want a war then i am sure that hun sen wiill oblige.
Thai rangers murder khmers on the border every week, not publicised in thailand.
Lets see them take on people who shoot back.
Chinese radar guided AAA and missiles will make short work of those fancy thai fighter bombers.
Chinese and vietnamese will be ready to help cambodia and give the thais a bloody nose.
The PAD certainly want a a little war, lets give it to them.
Baht will plummet, started already, good for us!

Soldiers killed in Thai-Cambodia border clash

Cambodian civilian guards at Preah Vihear temple during a prayer ceremony for peace in 2008.
    [AFP]

Two Cambodian soldiers had been killed and two wounded in a clash with Thai soldiers, Cambodian police say.

A Thai military official said fighting broke out over a disputed stretch of border near the ancient Preah Vihear temple.

Both sides accused each other of firing first in the heavily militarised area.

The official said an artillery exchange continued for over an hour.

Officials from both nations said the fighting was continuing.

The clash comes three days after a Cambodian court jailed two Thai nationalists who were found guilty of trespass and spying on the border.

    The verdict angered Thai nationalists.

A protest by "Yellow Shirt" activists in Bangkok has put pressure on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to take a tougher stance in the dispute.

^^ spare a thought for the people who live there

we're further south, down from Aranyaprathet/Poipet so well away from Preah Vihear, but the family has been here a long time and memories of Khmer Rouge, refugee camps (60,000+ people) etc are very fresh. The late father was puyaiban here through late 80s till 1994 when there was still active conflict along the border.

A Cambodian government spokesman told the BBC that the shooting started at about 1500 local time (0800 GMT).

He blamed the encroachment of Thai soldiers on Cambodian territory for the fighting - and said a similar incident had only narrowly been avoided on Thursday.

Witnesses in the area said that Thai troops had attacked a Cambodian Buddhist pagoda in a border area claimed by both sides.

Still confused. Over to TNN, Phuyaibaan now says an artillery shell hit village w. about 15 houses on fire, one villager killed.

Phuyaibaan says they need more help in putting out fires. Have only one firetruck there so far. 100 ppl involved in effort.

Phuyaibaan says this is the first time he has experienced anything like this. Police vehicles have been evacuating villagers.

From Cambodian TV report, Sermsuk speculates dispute may be over Thai roadbuilding project in or near 4.6 area claimed by Cambodia.

Local official says fire started, not by a shell, but by something more like a large firecracker. 4 houses on fire. /Thai PBS

Cambodian TV says Thais entered Cambodia territory near disputed temple, discussions failed, warning shots fired, and Thais opened fire.

Cambodian TV also reporting damage to village and local evacuation.

Thai school in border village was hit by artillery shells, suffering damage. Also a fire in village.

It had to come to this.
First a pig-headed Hu Sen [a non elected Prime Minister] and two 3rd world countries who couldn't solve a small dispute by jointly managing a minor 4.6 sq. km. of territory.

Thai, Cambodian Troops Clash at Border

    UPDATE : 4 February 2011

The army spokesman has confirmed that an armed clash has broken out at the Thai-Cambodian border in Si Sa Ket province after Cambodian troops fired rockets into the Thai soil.

Army Spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkumnerd confirmed with news media this afternoon that Thai troops exchanged fire with Cambodian soldiers stationed along the border in Si Sa Ket province.

Reports also said that both Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged fire with various types of heavy weapons and the fighting could be heard at Baan Phumsarol in Sao Thongchai subdistrict of Si Sa Ket's Kantharalak district.

Sansern also explained that Thai troops shot back in response to Cambodian soldiers' firing of rockets into the Thai soil.

The clash so far has reportedly caused minor forest fires as well as prompted evacuation of border villages.

Earlier today, tension was apparent from the disputed Preah Vihear Temple down to the border in Buri Ram province and the Ta Muanthom Temple in Surin's Phanom Dungrak district after the Second Army Region found unusually high military activity at the Cambodian border army camp last night.

Members of the press have been closely monitoring the activities of Cambodian troops throughout the morning and found that the army camp has been very quiet.

Upon investigation, the Cambodian military unit under the command of Colonel Nea Wong has mobilized to reinforce troops posted at the Udonmechai province opposite Surin's Baan Kruad district.

The Second Army Region has responded by mobilizing its troops and heavy artillery as a precaution against a possible confrontation.

An army intelligence source claimed Cambodian border troops posted at the Ta Muanthom Temple have been trying to provoke Thai troops into firing its weapons first, but the latter have been ordered to exercise extreme patience and endure the provocation.

Meanwhile, at the Jom O Samed border checkpoin in Surin's Kabcherng district, the Paramilitary Task Force 26 of the Second Army Region has been conducting strict inspection on individuals crossing the border in order to ensure safety and prevent possible instigators from escalating the already tense situation.

Nonetheless, there have been no reports of unusual activities at the Ta Muanthom and Ta Kwai Temples as tourists are still permitted into the temple grounds.

Border trade at Kabcherng's Chongjom Market has been normal with a dip in both Thai and Cambodian vendors who fear for their safety.

Thai, Cambodian troops clash near Preah Vihear temple

Thai, Cambodian troops clash near Preah Vihear temple

    วันศุกร์ ที่ 04 ก.พ. 2554

SI SA KET, Feb 4 - Fighting between Thai and Cambodian troops broke out on Friday afternoon along the border near the disputed Preah Vihear temple and artillery shells fell into Thailand's Si Sa Ket province.

The latest skirmish between the troops of the two neighbours occurred just hours after Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya met with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong for bilateral talks on the ongoing border dispute and help for the two Thais jailed in a Cambodian prison after being convicted of illegal entry and spying.

Ten artillery shells landed in Bhumsrol village in Kantararak district in the afternoon as troops from both countries fired at the other at Phu Makua Hill near the stairway to the ancient temple, forcing the evacuation of local residents along the border. Local media said students, teachers and villagers at Bhumsrol village ran for cover in nearby prepared makeshift bunkers after artillery shells landed just a kilometre from their village.

The cause of the fighting is not yet clearly known but French news agency Agence-France-Press (AFP) quoted Cambodian government spokesman Khieu Kanharith as saying the fighting erupted after Cambodians fired warning shots into the air to warn Thai troops to stop crossing into their territory but the Thai soldiers returned fire.

Thai army spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd told TV Thai that initial reports from local Thai military saying the clash began after an artillery shot fired from Cambodia that landed on Thai territory. Thai troops then returned fire as a warning.

“We don’t want to say that it was Cambodia who started firing at us first as it will be like trading accusations against each other,” Col Sansern said. "It is initially believed that it could have been caused by a misunderstanding.”

The Thai army spokesman said the Thai army chief and other senior military officers have been in contact with their peers in Cambodia to prevent the fighting escalate. There has been a report of casualties but the number remains unclear.

Until now, no casualties of both sides have yet to be reported, but smoke from fire was obviously seen in the area and gunshots were still being heard.

Col Sansern pledged Thai troops will ensure safety for Thais living near the clash area and protect Thai sovereignty.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who oversees national security, said he and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva have been informed of the clash, but he declined to go into detail, saying he is awaiting further confirmed information about the matter.

Mr Suthep however reaffirmed Cambodian soldiers opened fire at the Thai troops first and Thai soldiers had no choice but fire them back in self-defence.

At Sa Kaeo province bordering Cambodia’s Poi Pet, Cambodian traders were rushing back to their country after the fighting erupted.

The market was chaotic for a while as the report of fighting frightened the traders. (MCOT online news)

Thai and Cambodian troops exchange fire

By Bangkok Pundit Feb 04, 2011 8:38PM UTC

    AP:
Cambodian government spokesman Phay Siphan said the fighting occurred near the 11th century Preah Vihear temple, which belongs to Cambodia. Thailand claims a small patch of land near the temple.

Sporadic artillery fire could still be heard two hours later on a live interview on the Spring News TV website with a schoolmaster near the border, and in other Thai media reports.

Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said the fighting erupted when Thai troops ignored Cambodian warnings to stop crossing into its territory. He said the Cambodians fired warning shots into the air and the Thai soldiers returned fire.

Thailand disputed that account. Thai army spokesman Col. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the clash was triggered by artillery shots fired from the Cambodian side that fell on Thai territory.

“We don’t want to say that it was intentional. It could have been caused by a misunderstanding,” he told The Associated Press, adding that Thai troops returned fire as a warning.

Sansern said the Thai army commander and other senior officers were talking to Cambodian military authorities about the incident. He said no injuries had been reported and there had been no order to evacuate local residents from the area. However, Thai TV station TPBS showed villagers fleeing for safety.

Maj. Prom Sarouen, commander of the Cambodian police unit guarding Preah Vihear temple, confirmed by phone that fighting was continuing, with both sides using artillery and heavy machine guns. He said some shells had fallen on the temple grounds, but did not know if they had caused any damage.

Cambodia’s relations with Thailand have been contentious for years. They have had a series of small but sometimes deadly skirmishes over the demarcation of the border near the Preah Vihear temple.
BP: This is not the first skirmish, but this latest one has occurred at the same time that the PAD are protesting against Abhisit over Thai-Cambodian border issues from an MOU about dealing with border demarcation, the arrest of 7 Thais in the border area and jailing of 2, claims of loss of sovereignty etc ..
    Reuters has the PAD reaction:
Shelling began at about 3 p.m. (0800 GMT) and continued into early evening. Artillery shells landed at several villages on the Thai side, setting at least four houses on fire, witnesses said.

A Thai police colonel, Chatchawan Kaewchandee, said at least one villager was killed during the shelling. “We found one body of a male villager and there might be more,” he said.

The fighting could give a boost to a small but prolonged protest by Thailand’s “yellow shirt” activists demanding Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva take a tougher line against Cambodia.

Chamlong Srimuang, a yellow shirt leader, said his group would step up pressure on the government, saying the fighting showed that Abhisit was weak in handling border tensions.

“We have warned about this sort of thing for a long time. We didn’t call for a clash just for the government to show our military strength precisely to prevent any clash from taking place,” he told reporters
BP: Really, the PAD didn’t call for a clash?
