Puravarna CEO in Phuket Prison Awaiting Trial

Puravarna CEO in Phuket Prison Awaiting Trial

    By Chutima Sidasathian

ALLEGED Phuket property swindler Steven James Granville has been transferred from Bangkok to Phuket Prison to await trial over the failed Puravarna brand.

Mr Granville, 44, the executive officer of a Phuket-based property development firm, Puravarna Resorts Co, denies accusations of fraud involving more than 200 million baht.

On March 31 last year, police from the Bangkok-based Crime Suppression Division arrested Mr Granville on Phuket and escorted him back to Bangkok for questioning.

At the time of the arrest, the Criminal Court set bail of 10 million baht, which Mr Granville declined to pay.

A Singapore-based businessman filed a complaint to police on behalf of 19 people who claim to have invested more than 217 million baht in the project, which was to be built across a large property in Rawai. Agreements had been signed to buy villas priced between 6 million and 15 million baht. Advertisements for the Puravana Phuket development appeared in Singapore, Hong Kong, Britain and Australia.

Anand Kumar Sen, managing director of Tycoon Group Co, said the buyers had paid installments equal to more than 80 percent of the price before learning construction had not started.

Puravarna was closely tied on its online site to The Phuket Yacht Club Resort at Nai Harn. Bill Barnett's thephuketinsider.com also reported: ''According to local sources one of the group's major investors is a high profile Spanish football club who have reportedly been trying to recoup their investment in recent times.''

The site added that the charges against Mr Granville ''unravel a rather bizarre circumstance which saw the group launch a Rawai-based luxury estate development which offered 10 percent annual guaranteed returns and, over the past few years, continued to offer a number of varying promotional strategies to generate real estate sales.''

The Puravarna investigation is now in the hands of the Department of Special Investigation. More than 1000 inmates occupy Phuket Prison, several hundred occupants over its intended capacity.

I get the felling this is going to be very interesting and not all done and dusted as some people might have you believe.

Dont forget he is a Barrister himself and he must have some balls to refuse to pay the bail money and stay in jail, how many people would do that in Thailand?

You're right, if he's a lawyer he'll still be haggling over the price.

Granville has been incarcerated for almost a year now - between Bangkok and Phuket. As I understand he was not offered bail of 10m - I think if he had the option he would have used it.

^The news was posted 2nd August, so he's long gone with all that money.

Briton Steven James Granville has been released from prison after nearly 18 months , as outstanding criminal charges have been dropped over his involvement in the Purnavarna project in Phuket.

The high profile case of a luxury multimillion dollar luxury estate and ownership of the Royal Phuket Yacht Club in Rawai has been reported widely in the international press.

Investors in the company include a famous Spanish football club.

As work on the villa development have laid idle for a number of years, industry sources say the hotel asset on the transaction market but has failed to sell.

    The deal was done indeed.

Come what come may, time and the hour runs through the roughest day.

Always like these games the Thai play. Patience is required and a steady hand but if the farang scamster is prepared to sit it out eventually an accommodating price can be agreed which leaves both parties with an advantage.

Phuket Wan have the story too...didn't post it before because of the one post per day rule...here's the link....

Phuket Land Boss Free After Serving 18 Months in Jail - Phuket Wan

The entire story is a bit odd. Why drop the charges? From the above article...

The action against Mr Granville was led by a Singapore-based businessman, Anand Kumar Sen, who filed a class complaint on behalf of unhappy property purchasers in Singapore, Europe, Hong Kong and Australia.

So what happened to this class action?

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

I'll have to find out the local gossip on this, They have been trying to sell the hotel for a while and it can be sold separately from the project and various pieces of land.

BANGKOK — Nearly six years after police wrote off injuries sustained by a British resort owner as a bike accident, his family came forward Friday to insist it was murder, now that he is dead.

A lawyer representing the family of Steven James Granville filed a complaint at the Technology Crime Suppression Division over the police conclusion that the death was an accident. Vincent McOwen said they were coming forward now as Granville has died after being brain dead over four years in a UK hospital.

We obviously missed a large chunk of the story.

Why did they not come forward and say it was attempted murder?

Vincent McOwen said they were coming forward now as they think they can get their hands on some money.
    FTFY.
