Urgent: EC resolves to dissolve Democrat

    Hot off the press!!!!!

The Election Commission told a press conference that it voted 4:5 to request the Constitution Court's order to dissolve the Democrat Party.

The party was accused of having unlawfully obtained donations from TPI Polene.

In the next step, the EC will pass on the case to the Office of the Attorney-General to consider before sending the case to the Constitution Court.

Either way it is typically Thai and highly convenient...unless you're Abhisit. Sadly for him his brief tenure is going to be looked upon as an abject failure.

Actually the Constitution Court. Given the current situation, highly unlikely they are not going to endorse the decision of the EC.

Typical of the army, come out, kill a few innocents, them turn tail and "save face".

Did he apologise for the total fuck up his folks made?

2 threads running on the same subject, maybe one kind Mod could amalgamate them?

Have also read separately that the *EC's ruling was 4-1 in favour, not 5-4 quoted in the article.

    * Confirmed in SD's post below, there are only 5 members of the Commission!

In record time to be sure. Once banned, parliament dissolved, care taker government calls elections. All very convenient given the current situation.

It appears that people (rent a mob) in the capital are demonstrating against the current government merely because it doesn't suit Mr T for the democrats to be in power. The redshirted peasants are insisting on new elections when they will then sell their vote to the highest bidder.

You really couldn't make this stuff up!

Methinks you don't fully understand the role of the Army here. Regardless of the actual Government, in essence the Military take their directions from 'others'. They may, on occasion, co-operate with an incumbent Government, should that be what 'others' wish. Same with a coup. Do you really think that the Army Generals themselves decide they are going to stage a coup? 'Others' tell them if and when.

Anupong has at least had the guts to express 'disquiet' at the current situation, undoubtably that he's being used and set up to be the fall guy.

I understand the 'others' PAG, but what i don't really understand is that why those 'others' don't wish the military to crush the Thaksin supporters, after all they were instrumental in the 2006 coup to oust Mr T. Why are they backing off now? Why are they caving in to the demands of the redshirts unless of course it is merely a temporary stance with false promises in order to restore peace to the capital asap.

Actually a convenient end to the mess. What could be wrong with it?

Only thing needed now is a free and fair election with the result not tampered with during counting and then acceptance of the outcome.

Bugger me, a bit of deja vu. Something very akin to what occurred when the Yellow Shirts occupied the International Airport me thinks.

As i mentioned earlier, you really couldn't make this stuff up!

I wonder if Anand Panyachun is available to take his PM caretaker seat again?

Best man for the job and has done it many times before.

The red shirts rallying in front of the EC office set 2pm as deadline for the EC commissioners to give answer on the Democrat's dissolution case otherwise they would storm into the office.

Red shirts protesters gather in front of Election Commission office on Chang Wattana road on Monday.

The threat was made after Election commissioners failed to show up to answer their demand concerning Democrat Party's dissolution case.

The protesters travelled from Pan Fah Bridge and Rajaprasong Intersection where they occupied for the third day.

EC sent an official to receive the protesters' letter which asked about Democrat's dissolution case.

However they further demanded that one of the five EC commissioners showed up to give an answer for the case.

Reds win again! Quite remarkable what a few protests can do, and they didn't need to take over an airport or nuffin.

Now, what if this case takes a further 2 years to go through the courts? What does this do to the current impasse?

How can vejj be forced from office in the interim? What if he decides to continue stalling for time?
