Hot off the press!!!!!
The Election Commission told a press conference that it voted 4:5 to request the Constitution Court's order to dissolve the Democrat Party.
The party was accused of having unlawfully obtained donations from TPI Polene.
In the next step, the EC will pass on the case to the Office of the Attorney-General to consider before sending the case to the Constitution Court.
The Nation
Is this corruption, or just a conflict of interest
^ supreme court does that EC just proposes and sends to the AG to put to the SC
Either way it is typically Thai and highly convenient...unless you're Abhisit. Sadly for him his brief tenure is going to be looked upon as an abject failure.
Oh my. Just what Mark needs at the moment. EC trying to even the playing field. Finally!!!Originally Posted by PAG

Actually the Constitution Court. Given the current situation, highly unlikely they are not going to endorse the decision of the EC.
Could they not find a cooking show that abhisit has done or something?
Game over.
Typical of the army, come out, kill a few innocents, them turn tail and "save face".
Did he apologise for the total fuck up his folks made?
The operation to disperse the reds failed. Heads must roll!
You got to be kidding. Anybody here who believes this outcome would have happened without the events of the weekend?Originally Posted by Norton
So what happens next
Does parliament vote in a new PM or what ?
2 threads running on the same subject, maybe one kind Mod could amalgamate them?
Have also read separately that the *EC's ruling was 4-1 in favour, not 5-4 quoted in the article.
* Confirmed in SD's post below, there are only 5 members of the Commission!

In record time to be sure. Once banned, parliament dissolved, care taker government calls elections. All very convenient given the current situation.Originally Posted by PAG
I understand the 'others' PAG, but what i don't really understand is that why those 'others' don't wish the military to crush the Thaksin supporters, after all they were instrumental in the 2006 coup to oust Mr T. Why are they backing off now? Why are they caving in to the demands of the redshirts unless of course it is merely a temporary stance with false promises in order to restore peace to the capital asap.
well all Abhisit's cred is over in a matter of time
The "powers" have decided to "wash there hands"
Might as well disolve the lower house immediately after Songkran
Do the Democrats have a successor (?) party ready, just in case ?
I wonder if Anand Panyachun is available to take his PM caretaker seat again?
Best man for the job and has done it many times before.
Maybe this explains the ruling...LOL

The red shirts rallying in front of the EC office set 2pm as deadline for the EC commissioners to give answer on the Democrat's dissolution case otherwise they would storm into the office.
Red shirts protesters gather in front of Election Commission office on Chang Wattana road on Monday.
The threat was made after Election commissioners failed to show up to answer their demand concerning Democrat Party's dissolution case.
The protesters travelled from Pan Fah Bridge and Rajaprasong Intersection where they occupied for the third day.
EC sent an official to receive the protesters' letter which asked about Democrat's dissolution case.
However they further demanded that one of the five EC commissioners showed up to give an answer for the case.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar
Reds win again! Quite remarkable what a few protests can do, and they didn't need to take over an airport or nuffin.
Guess I should have out the weein there. Thought the !!! would get the point.Originally Posted by Takeovers
Now, what if this case takes a further 2 years to go through the courts? What does this do to the current impasse?
How can vejj be forced from office in the interim? What if he decides to continue stalling for time?
I'm getting a headache !
