| Bt300,000 a month for CEO of a national carrier is jack shit. He should be on USD1,000,000 a year at least! Shows the job is worthless if they'd rather pocket the cash than hire (and support) a decent manager. Typical Thais. Bleed it till it's dead and then complain about how badly it was run when their backhanders run out! ![]() |

| Seems like a manager trying to manage; made reasonable comments to. Problem is that he heas now made others lose face, and nobody will help him to run the company; decent people like this are much needed, but they're on a hidding to nothing. Good luck to him, wish him well, can't see him lasting 3 months before he walks out (to the joy of the rest of the senior management team, who will bleed the company til it's dead) - impossible task. |

| Thai saves 10.3bn baht on non-fuel expenses By Ghim-Lay Yeo Thai Airways International has saved 10.3 billion Thai baht ($310 million) on non-fuel expenses in the first three quarters of this year, as the airline works to reduce its debt. It expects to achieve 11.84 billion Thai baht in savings, or a 15% reduction in costs, in the whole of 2009, says the carrier. "Cost reductions resulted from cutting unnecessary expenses as well as revising work processes to increase productivity and efficiency," adds the airline. The cuts were in areas like personnel-related expenses, flight crew and cabin crew costs, marketing, sales, advertising, leases on aircraft, engines and spare parts. For example, overtime was reduced by 48% from a year ago, and flight operational expenses were cut by 67%. The Star Alliance carrier, which has a 160 billion Thai baht debt, says it will continue to implement the cost cutting measures. Thai appointed a new president in June and embarked on a four-year plan to turn the airline around. flightglobal.com

| Quite a tragedy, really. The once premium carrier fallen into the demon's workshop. Scroundrels, the lot of 'em. The real inquiry should be how they expect to work in the black when very few could even afford the unnecessary pricing guidelines. Outside of all the graft, one has to wonder if they would be able to compete without the government subsidies - all major {and minor} airlines are dependent on some sort of government underwritting of one nature or another.
