But whatever is blamed on Thaksin, I don't believe in democracy being served by repeatedly pushing out elected governments. The red shirts want an elected government back, the yellow shirts want the opposite.

So yes I have taken sides. That does not mean I totally agree with them or even know what exactly they stand for.

It's a difficult choice to be sure.

As Bart would say...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Certainly the yellow shirts represent a nationalism that is anti-democratic and authoritarian, but the red shirts would have Thaksin back in a heartbeat and he is only surpassed in his corrupt cronyism by, ironically, Hun Sen. Thaksin would grab absolute power if the opportunity arose. He's a vile individual.

Both camps are dangerous to the fortunes of Thailand.

I fear something else. I believe they don't want another coup.

Instead the next elections could be rigged the way they were in the Philippines. That is worse than another coup.

The last elections were held under the Military Junta and were heavily stacked in favor of the Democrats. They still lost.

Do you really want to doubt that Thaksin had a majority?

I have quoted what you said.

Did you not imply there that Thaksins victories were fraudulent?

I must have another concept of communication and language than you.

It would appear so...I was simply suggesting rigged elections are commonplace here.

You made an interpretation of my intent, which was not something I had meant.

Blimey Perota you crawled out of your (what ya listening to) home just to throw that bitchy little one liner into the mix?

For a moment there I almost forgot you're a Frenchman

Now you've had your say you'd better scurry off back home before Ze Jermans get here and the big boys have to protect you again

Great jokes ! I never heard them before. You're really the funny guy of this forum

My post was dumb, no contest, but I was just trying to be at your level.

If you have nothing to say, just say nothing.

Back to the subject at hand, I'm really surprised that the Nation and the BP have been so quiet about the Red rally. Are they really that scared ?
As I said before, I watched a very tired and worried Abhi during an interview on Channel 7.
Thai politicians are very selfish, I don't believe they will have traveled "en masse" to Cambodia if they didn't believe that Thaksin has a chance to be back home (and in charge) soon.
Then if you add (from the BP) "Mr Newin said the next House meeting should be held in Cambodia's capital." If Mr Newin said so ... Mr Newin is a man who has always known which side his bread is buttered ....

Whats the difference between a rigged election and someone very rich bribing a large number of poor and uneducated people to vote for him

I heard it today from a Thai Chinese guy I know.

All the reds were paid 1000 baht to go the rally. The yellows are true democracy as they don't pay. Their people go for their feeling not money.

I told him that rumor has that Thaksin is planning a comeback next month as he has the money to buy off the military.

He was quite upset.

^^ So that's 50,000,000 to 60,000,000 baht paid to the reds to go watch a concert?

These yellows are always good for a laugh.

No, he is some die hard Thai Chinese traditionalist. His brother owns a Thai restaurant in Chicago that I go to often. The two are like night and day. The one in Chicago is progressive as all get out and the one here thinks all farangs should be ran out of Thailand (except you Mista Chi, you good man- he always says).

He says us farangs ruined the country and blames us for the prostitution and other "evil Westernization" - MTV no good. farang steal Thai job, Western news not understand Thai way, farang stealing Thai lady, farang make mix baby with Thai lady, Thai people having more sex now than before from Western movie etc.

He thinks Thailand should be the way it was 100 years ago.

I always tell him he is crazy. His brother agrees with me.

Yes and they mostly will be, you cant ignore LM or how it's interpreted, remember what happens when things get uncomfortable for the military, the press don't do well.
Other unmentionable factors have yet to come into play so everything is up in the air at the moment.
Also what about the reaction to Thaksin's recent interview with the Times, scary times to be that public about the reds, possibly another reason for going to Cambodia for the rally, no one can shut you down or manipulate the situation.
