I leave the U.S. on Sept. 21 for LOS. At least last month, I took two suitcases full of things I wanted for my new house. I was planning on bringing this time my laptop, I-pod, Bose headphones, I-pod accessories, among other things which don't cause the concern of theft from my luggage that the electric items do. Those TSA locks better do their job. At least last month I took my supply of expensive booze over. I don't think that I'd like a $200 bottle of cognac or a 31 year aged whisky confiscaded or stolen.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Just think of all the business those crappy 'duty-free' shops are going to lose. Those at UK airports are so overpriced as to be a joke. So now we won't be able to buy that litre of gin and save ourselves 50p over the price at the local supermarket. And if, like me, you hate all those Dixons chains that sell cameras, ipods and all that other electronic gear at exactly the same price in their duty free shops as they are on the high street, then we should all be thanking the failed plot for making people not do any more duty free shopping for those, too.

As a regular traveller through Heathrow, I have noticed how more and more public space has been given over to shops, duty free areas and other places to sell their crap. Perhaps now they'll all close down and we can go back to enjoying somewhere to sit down for the 6 hours before yet another security check.

It will pass. Remember Richard Reid, the 'shoe bomber'. For weeks after this one incident, everyone had to show the underside of their shoes to show the security staff at airports that we weren't hiding a bomb in there. F***ing stupid, of course, and now no one ever checks.

Looks like I'll be flying into Paris or Brussels and taking the Eurostar.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

I can sort of understand the ban on electronics and liquids, but what problems can a book cause?
I'm fekked, if i could fly more than an hour without a book.

Yeah - so you can't even bring a paperback book on board? What the hell are you supposed to do for 12+ hours on a plane? I feel sorry for those flight attendants who are going to be dealing with ornery passengers for those 12+ hour flights.

It has almost got to the stage where we will have to say to all Muslims "sorry, but because so many of you want to kill so many of us you will have to organise your own airlines and airports. Good luck".

I can't help but wonder that if we left the middle east alone for all these years would they be so keen to kill all of us now? Fcuk the Israelies, let them fend for themselves if they don't get along with their neighbours.

Just ban all swarthy types from flying. Or, just ban them from the west. Sorted.

I hate flying anyway. Especially a long haul flight. I can just about put up with a flight to WA, but I've no intention of wasting a day of my life sitting on a plane just so I can experience 'greyness' again.

Quite so, but with duty free shops you have an option of whether you buy form them or not. Remember that BAA make a great deal of their income from those same duty free shops and if they lose that income they will want to recoup from somewhere/someone else - guess who?

Man, the best reason for having an MP3 player is now ruined if the restrictions aren't lifted.

Punish the innocent because a few people mess up. Typical.

    Aren't CNN great!

And the UK Police press release said it was 24

I'd rather be "punished" than have a plane exploded by some fcuking rag head at 40,000 feet...just quietly!

Precisely. They should use "swarthy" as a way to define what people get bumped from a flight.

Just like the South Africans used to measure peoples nose width to define if they were black.

Maybe a few Italians would get caught up in the net but that would be no great loss.

Don't these people realise that we need to fly around so we can keep making cell phones, guns and pick ups so they can run around the desert and talk to each other?
