Anyway a former war criminal may well introduce a populist agenda, Cambodia will rise from the ashes of it's past once the world economy gets back in gear and for that he needs a happy population that won't shoot the tourists with enough education to drag them out of the rice farms and into the service economy. Thaksin not doing himself any favors..? Do his jail time and come back as a politician..? You haven't really thought about that have you? Thaksin has gone from dispossesed thorn in the side of any host country with limited power and resources, to a secure job, with power, and resources in a country where if he laughed loud enough his enemies would be able to hear him, I should think right now there aren't many other guys on this planet as cheerful as he.

"Ah, well, we have to take the good with the bad" that's what many of my fellow countrymen said about one of the most infamous sons of our Nation. And that's always a mistake. Those who commit crimes against humanity need to be brought to justice. It doesn't really matter if they saved a kitten, provided health care for the poor, or built autobahns. | |

| FYI, it's the royalist FUNCINPEC party that supported the Khmer rouges,or was supported by them depends the way you look at it, until Hun Sen got sick of this farce that was dragging Cambodia down and kicked Ranaridh out of the country. Some Thai elements may have recently supported Cambodian opposition, which may explain why Hun Sen is so pissed off lately. Also a lot of small businessmen not connected to the Bangkok elite are heavily invested in Cambodia (same in Burma ), we may look for some explanation there too
