| Thai tourism hit by instability Al Jazeera English - 2009 - Thai tourism hit by instability In what is supposed to be Thailand's peak tourist season, the long tail boats along the Chao Phraya river, in the heart of Bangkok, are mostly empty these days. Tour operators have never seen it so quiet in October, Al Jazeera's Aela Callan reports. Athiraj, a tour operator in Bangkok, said: "The number of tourists has decreased at least 50 per cent. Normally this time of year is the start of the high season and a lot of tourists are coming. But now it feels like we are still in the low season." Around the Grand Palace, one of the Thai capital's main tourist attractions, the city's famous tuk-tuks sit idle, as do many street vendors who are barely scraping together a living selling souvenirs. "This year is the worst. It's actually the worst of the worst," Jintana, a tour-boat operator, said. "Normally I have so many tourists. The number is so enormous I do not have time to eat." The downturn is expected to cost Thailand $4bn.

| MMMMMmmmmmMMMMmmmMMMMmmm?!? Old news. We lip falang off. we good. we not understand why falang not come back? Is somebody going to state something similar ![]() --- Enough of the witticism.... Why I think the numbers are so low is not because of a poor exchange rate but everything else that has surfaced during the past two years and generally the mood we tourists/expats have experienced for the same time plus the political instability. Feel free to correct me on this.

| ^ A lot of old bolliks really, Tourists just cant seem to stay away from Thailand whatever happens in the friggin place. Might be a tad slow at the moment but one must remember that this is the case in most countries because of the down turn in the economy. Things are improving and before you know it there will be Muppets running around everywhere shagging trollops and drinking shite loads of Singa. Myself likes it at the moment.

| Empathetic extensions needn't be fine tuned regarding discussions herein. Observe the instinctive nature of a population that dwells and exist for the pleasure of promoting epicaricacy. |
