PAD leaders to be charged

Charges will likely be laid against leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy PAD) in the next couple of weeks over the occupation and shutting down of Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports late last years, a senior police investigator said on Thursday.

Pol Lt-Gen Wuth Puawes, the chief investigator in the case, said a complaint backed by evidence had been laid against the PAD by the Aviation Department.�

Investigators were writing their case report and preparing to file charges, which would probably be in �mid-July.

He declined to reveal who among the PAD leaders would be charged.

Airports of Thailand (AoT) has estimated initial damage to its operations from the seizure of Bangkok's two major� airports at 540 million baht, excluding lost business opportunities.

Thousands of PAD protesters occupied Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports for about a week in December last year, demanding the resignation of the government of former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat.

It was only the end of last year but the then-PM Somchai seems a distant memory already. What an inconsequential little fellah. I almost felt sorry for him.. It was nice to know he had a bit of fancy stuff on the side. Allegedly.

Summons for PAD Leaders

Matichon reports that the police have issued summons for 27 PAD leaders and senior PAD members over the seizing of Don Muang and Suvarnbhumi airports.

The article states that on July 1 that Pol Lt. Gen Wuthi of Racha Tewa Police Station issued a summons for 25 PAD leaders and senior PAD members to attend the police station and give a statement in regards to a multitude of offences including public unrest, damage to property, incitement, and terrorism. In regards to the seizure of Suvarnbhumi airport, summons have been issued to the following 25 persons:

3. Suriyasai Katasila
4. Samran Rodpet,
5. Somkiat Pongpaiboon
6. Amorn Amornrattananont
7. Chaiwat Sinsuwong
8. Sirichai Mai-ngam

10. Terdpom Jaidee - was a TRT candidate in Srisaket.
11. Pipob Thongchai
12. Gen. Pathompong Kesornsuk
13. Anchalee Paireerak,
14. Pichit Chaimongkol
15. Prapan Koonmee
16. Boonjong Nasae
17. Kasit Piromya
18. Saranyoo Wongkrajang
19. Veera Somkwamkhid
20. Sarocha Pornudomsak,
21. Somsak Kosaisuuk
22.Samdin Lertbusaya - an aide to Chamlong and part of the Dharma army

27 PAD leaders and others were issued with a similar summons for a similar offences in regards to the seizure of Don Muang.

BP: This is only a summons and they have not been formally charged. They are requested to make an appearance and give a statement on July 16. Will see what happens over Kasit and also whether the PAD get angry or just shrug their shoulders knowing that the case against them is unlikely to go any further?

This is going to be fun especially if a summons is issued against Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya for terrorism; but then again I doubt these summons will ever get anywhere especially if the court dismissed the charges against the PAD over the Government House siege “because they left the building”.

If you look high enough you can see who caused most of this problem, but then again so typical of Thailand: a lot of paperwork for nothing.

Kasit informed of charges against him

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who is currently in Qatar, has been informed of police decision to charge him along with leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy in connection with the seizure Suvarnabhumi airport in a drive to oust the Somchai Wongsawat government late last year.

Panich Wikitseth, assistant to the foreign minister, said on Sunday that Mr Kasit had talked to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva concerning this matter and he would continue to perform his duties.

Mr Kasit would return to the country in one or two days and would report to police investigators handling the case on July 16 to hear the charges.

PAD protesters at Suvarnabhumi airport have been charges with seven offences including obstructing aviation, which can result in death penalties if convicted, and terrorism charges under Article 135 of the Criminal Code.
