I was violently sick once in Thailand. I really thought I would die. I remember being so sick I thought death wouldn't be so bad. I have no idea what caused it. I had been up in Nakhon Sawan at my girlfriend's mother's house....I mean, shack. I then ate a meal on Sukhumvit, then about 4 hours later it hit. Hearing about someone actually dying is scary.

Good luck with that.

I feel fortunate that I never got food poisoning in Thailand (worst case was actually in Nevada about 10 years ago) but I owe that to the fact that I used to wai every noodle cart vendor on my block every day without fail.

Thank foking god for that as I was starting to feel the odd one out here as I've never had anything and lived on Islands, the mountains and many places in Thailand.

Lets face facts here people, one can get food poisoning anywhere and its a known fact that 5 star hotels can serve up a dodgy meal.

Dont friggin worry about it.

That faeces story is disgusting to say the least.

I hope the Thailand police find out through the biopsy, what killed these two people so it doesn't happen to others.

It is so easy to get food poisoning on an Island. I had food poisoning when on Koh Tao, Thailand. It hit me so fast, I was on antibiotics, and near the bathroom for a good few days.

CO poisoning?

Reading this the first thing that came to mind was the death of tennis star Vitas Gerulaitis:

Gerulaitis Death Attributed to Short Pipe - The New York Times

With a $1.44 pipe extension, Mr. Catterson said, the fumes would have been dispersed safely away from the cottage. Instead, he said, the carbon monoxide was drawn by an air conditioner through a forced-air heating vent into the cottage where Mr. Gerulaitis was sleeping. When he died, the carbon monoxide level had reached 2,700 parts per million, Mr. Catterson said.
"Death could come in 20 minutes at that level," Mr. Catterson said. "It's silent, it's odorless, it's tasteless." He had no explanation for why no previous problem occurred between the April installation and Mr. Gerulaitis's death in September.

Investigators should check the area around the aircon intake, if they have not already done so (of course, if there was a motor running or some other exhaust source behind this, whoever owns the resort may have covered their tracks). Legionnaire's disease was mentioned above, but that causes pneumonia-like symptoms, I think.

FOUR people have died , a man last month and now these two women .
And a dead man found floating May 1 or 2nd .

Phuket Gazette - online English newspaper for Phuket, Thailand, with daily news, classified ads, yellow pages, business listings, upcoming events, event calendar, phuket events

<<<<<Dead foreigner found floating off Phi Phi Islands

PHUKET: Police on Koh Phi Phi are trying to identify the remains of a foreign man whose body was found floating about 3 nautical miles off the Phi Phi Islands in Krabi.

The body was recovered by workers from the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization’s Tourist Rescue Center, which operates out of Chalong Pier in Phuket.

The exact time of the body's recovery was not given in the police report, made at 10am today.

The man was found wearing only green trousers. His left arm bore a tattoo with the words “mother heart”.

Koh Phi Phi subdistrict police are now questioning people on the island and checking missing persons reports from Krabi and surrounding provinces, including Phuket, to try to identify the man.

Slår giftalarm i thailandsk ferieparadis - VG Nett om Thailand

<<<<<
......The Thai newspaper Andaman Times announces today that an American female tourist died suddenly on Sunday - hours before the two women were sick.

We also know that a Norwegian (46) died in Phi Phi Islands for about a month ago. He was on honeymoon when he was suddenly ill. Also he may have been poisoned.....

>>>>>

Illness from accidental poisoning with spoiled food nearly always involves diarrhea in addition to throwing up. Intentional poison with by disgruntled restaurant worker, just vomiting.

^^Yes, if you used to wai noodle cart vendors on your block, the vendors and people who observed your behaviour would have thought of you as rather stupid.

Possible causes , quick Google search;

-Food spoilage usually has diarrhea too.

-Pufferfish and related toxins fit the symptoms

-Air conditioners are not listed as probable sources of Carbon Monoxide.

-Pesticide poisoning MAY cause blue skin as does cyanide, but cyanide is very quick
Mild poisoning or early symptoms of acute pesticide poisoning headache, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, restlessness, nervousness, perspiration, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, loss of weight, thirst, moodiness, soreness in joints, skin irritation, eye irritation, irritation of the nose and throat.

-Radiation poisoning low level usually brings head ache, diarrhea and vomiting . Higher exposures one or all three symptoms with hair loss, rapid death.

Here's an interesting one, maybe BG/Medusa is familiar with it?

Yellow
phosphorus ;

Breath has garlic odor; feces may glow and smoke
from phosphorus fumes; vomiting and diarrhea;
burning pain in hroat, stomach and intestines

Well, no, or a lot of us would be dead. If the intake for an aircon unit is close to a source of exhaust, like a pump or other type of motor, that exhaust will wind up in the room the aircon is cooling.

Let me give an example from my own experience- four other divers and myself were suiting up for a dive near Puerto Galera, having reached the site. The first guy to check his air supply noticed a slightly foul taste/odor to the air in his tank. We abandoned the dive and, arriving back at the shop, found that the workers fixing up the path outside the shop had set up a small motor (to run a mixer) on the other side of the wall from the air compressor, contaminating the air pumped into our tanks. Careless, but it happens.

Doesn't apply if the aircon is a conventional split, which draws its air from within the room.

Right, it is hard to say without looking at it. The factor that has me curious is that the boyfriend seems to suspect that the couple's varying degrees of illness are related to time spent in the room. That suggests fumes to me, of a kind not terribly noticeable, like odorless/tasteless CO.

Never had food poisoning anywhere in Asia, or, Africa.
I only ever eat in restaurants, or, stalls that have plenty of customers.
