Its called ' The two wrongs make it alright ' theory. Justifying the govournments over zealous crackdowns and sensorship by saying that Thaksin started it. Surely if Aphisit wants to prove his superior statesmanship it should be by setting an example not by copying Thaksin all the time.

The blind hatred of Thaksin is being used to usher in something far worse. Cutting of the nose to spite the face is the way things are heading at the moment. Thailand needs more freedom, not less. More democracy , not less

Go ahead - share.
During the time I've worked for Internet Services providers in Thailand, a time which includes Thaksin's stints as prime minister, I received no orders to block any websites for political reasons. Many were blocked because of pornography, gambling, or extreme insults to the royals but none because they disagreed with government's stance on anything. Since the time of the CNS I have received orders to block almost 1,000 websites for political reasons, many of them issued under the cyber-crimes law, a law created by the coup-makers and which didn't exist under the Thaksin regimes. I have several years worth of blocking orders here at my desk so if you can show that the Thaksin governments have blocked more websites for political reasons (not LM, not porn, not gambling) than the CNS and their puppets then please name them for us.

Personally I think that trying to stop the violence is a good idea, maybe a warning first...then closure...trying to overthrow the government just cos some mandranian wants his cash back, really shouldn't warrant such behaviour as we have seen for the last 4-5mths.

Could you see this happening in other countries...I believe that it would and probably quicker than it's happend here.

How can a convicted fugative call on people, whilst residing in another country to go to war with the current government 'however it got in to power' and contiune to get away with it?? This would've been blocked by most countries in the world just in a more clandestine way.

Glad that his passport has been revoked he may at last be able to come back to his beloved country to face charges and imprisonment...FINALLY.

So but that's my HO'

I heard he banned them by the trillions, that he actually used money stolen from orphans (who he then sold to laotian whore farms) to register millions of domain names so that he could pre-emptively ban them. He banned so many websites that early in 2004 the number of sites on the internuts went negative and the net briefly disappeared up its own ass. I also heard that he used the gold teeth he stole from the oppressed bangkok middle classes to buy up the A B and C root name servers so that he could have them burned and turned into amulets by communist republican anti-monarchy monks and used to make his redshort commandos immune to eedjits on the internets. It was thaksin who prevented the switchover to IPv6 because that would have meant bazillions more websites to ban and what with gassing people who wore glasses and bribing the world media and eating babies and that he just didn't have the time for it and that he used the money he got from selling shincorp to set up a cosmic firewall to prevent the space brothers on zeta reticulai questioning his policies on the pantip and teenee forums.

You conveniently miss the point that since the Junta, with the exception of the Samak and Somchai administrations, media censorship, in particular of the internet, has increased substantially.

Simply uninformed nonsense, the Junta and this administration are far worse.

Pre-coup, the government blocked 2,475 websites, while as of January 2007, the Junta had blocked 13,435 websites - an increase of a shade under 443%.

Here's one for you, Einstein, how many thousands do you think there are in "almost 1,000"?

Are you blind or just stupid? I find it difficult to believe that you're unable to comprehend the very simple sentence you quoted.

but bobby - it intimates that all media censorship of all mediums has increased substantially - and I have not noticed it in the print media - I think they are just getting excited with their bandwagon.

internet access around the world has been increasing exponentially - many 100's and 100's - so it stands to reason that the ipid hordes will be posting more and more online - and along with that will be more content that is considered offensive etc

So how do you justify and explain a 4-500% increase in censorship of online media in just the few months following the coup?

is a few months , thousands ?

just what was censored by the 4-500 % 's

something happened which caused an increase in posting online of which much was censored ?

sounds reasonable - and the people in power had the tools at their disposal and people like b0b to implement - so they blocked heaps of sh1t.

though it is a radical hypothesis - military govts censor heavy handedly - but it might fly
