Actor admits sex with boys

NEW JERSEY - A SMALL-TIME New Jersey actor admitted in federal court on Tuesday that he travelled to Thailand on several occasions to film himself having sex with boys as young as 6 years old.

Wayne Nelson Corliss faces up to 75 years in prison after pleading guilty to five counts, including production and possession of child pornography and travelling to foreign countries to engage in illicit sexual activities.

U.S. District Judge Joseph A. Greenaway Jr scheduled sentencing for Feb 9.

'This is undoubtedly among the most depraved conduct we've seen, with the extent of the victimisation,' said Mr Michael Drewniak, spokesman for the US Attorney's Office in Newark.

Corliss, 59, a part-time actor from northern New Jersey, has been described by friends and colleagues as an educated, witty man who made extra money by dressing up as Santa Claus and painting faces at children's parties.

He was arrested in May, 48 hours after Interpol, the international police organisation, made a public plea for help identifying a man seen in pictures seized in Norway in 2006.

Once the request was made, leads received in the first 24 hours helped authorities find Corliss in his Union City apartment.

In his plea before Greenaway on Tuesday, Corliss admitted corresponding by e-mail with John Wrenshall, a Canadian citizen living in Thailand who set up a 'sponsorship' system in which Corliss and other men could pay him up to $200 for access to boys as young as 4 years old.

Corliss admitted staying at Wrenshall's home with two other Americans, Alabama residents Mitchell Jackson and Burgess Lee Burgess, in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and having sex with the boys and filming the activities. He admitted performing oral sex on two boys, one aged 6 and another aged 9, during the visits.

Burgess and Jackson have been indicted and are awaiting trial in Alabama, and authorities are continuing to investigate Wrenshall, according to the US Attorney's Office.

The white-haired, bespectacled Corliss, wearing a green prison jumpsuit, answered Greenaway's questions briefly and in a soft voice during the 45-minute hearing.

He began sobbing at one point while Assistant US Attorney Lee Vartan read off the details behind each of the criminal counts, but eventually composed himself.

The most serious count, producing child pornography, carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years.

The three counts of travelling abroad for illicit sexual activities each carry a 15-year maximum sentence, and possession of child pornography has a 10-year maximum sentence.

Each count also includes a fine up to $250,000 (S$373,285). Mr Chester Keller, a public defender representing Corliss, did not respond to a telephone message left at his office on Tuesday seeking comment. -- AP

Let not fool ourselves that cons are paragons of moral rectitude and ethical probity. Yes on occasions, they have themselves been molested and want revenge, but hierarchies in jails are just a way of feeling better about oneself by having someone else below to be shat on.

Exposes 3 others in kid-sex 'tourism'


NEWARK - A Union City child molester and pornographer sobbed as he pleaded guilty yesterday to having sex with a 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old boy in Thailand and he also implicated three other men in the sex tourism trips.

"This individual engaged in among the most depraved conduct imaginable with helpless children," said U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie of Wayne Nelson Corliss, 59, who was arrested at his home on May 8 as a result of tips generated by a worldwide Interpol manhunt.


Corliss faces up to 75 years in federal prison when sentenced on Feb. 9 but is likely to be sentenced within the sentencing guidelines range of 262 to 327 months. Prosecutors described him as an "itinerant actor."

In court, Corliss said John Wrenshall, a Canadian citizen living in Thailand, arranged to have young boys available to him for a price on three trips to Thailand Corliss made from 2000 to 2002 with Mitchell Jackson and Lee Burgess, both of Alabama.

Corliss said Wrenshall quoted him a price of $200 for first-time oral sex with boys 4 years old or older, and $20 thereafter. He said Wrenshall told him that if he "sponsored" a boy for $400, he could have unfettered access to the boy during the visit.

He admitted that in one communication, Wrenshall told him to bring "the biggest jar of Vaseline you could find because it lasts longer than hand lotion and is easier on the smaller boys."

Corliss admitted that he and a 6-year-old boy performed oral sex on each other numerous times and had oral sex with the 9-year-old boy at least once. Corliss also admitted sexually abusing children in 2002 in Thailand by photographing and videotaping them performing sex acts with him and his two Alabama friends, and said he brought the images back to his home.

In addition, Corliss admitted possessing images of child pornography on his home computers.

Jackson and Burgess have been indicted and await trial in Alabama, officials said.

The investigation into Wrenshall is ongoing, officials said, adding that Corliss communicated with Wrenshall for years through an Internet chat room called "Boy Love and Chat."

Leads generated by the manhunt including a resume for Corliss that described him as "an acclaimed portrayer of Santa Claus every winter holiday season" at parties for New York banks and others.

As part of his plea deal, Corliss has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors and provide additional information.

A Canadian accused of running a sex tourism business in Thailand involving young boys has been arrested in London, and now faces charges of child pornography.

John Wrenshall, 62, was arrested at Heathrow Airport early Monday, according to a report in The Globe and Mail.

U.S. authorities allege Wrenshall operated a brothel at his home near Bangkok, and catered his business to international clients.

The investigation apparently dates back to 2005, when Canadian investigators found explicit images of child abuse on the Internet. They traced the images to a U.S. citizen named Wayne Nelson Corliss, who eventually pled guilty to several sex charges.

Corliss said he had participated in a sex tourism scheme, according to the Globe report. He claimed he had abused children at the home of Wrenshall, along with two others.

None of the allegations against Wrenshall have been proven in court.

The U.S. Department of Justice claims that Wrenshall has run a brothel since about 2000, inviting clients to stay at his home and telling them he would use the money "to support the boys."

He is now being held in custody in Britain and faces extradition to the U.S., where he faces 18 charges relating to child pornography and sex tourism.

actually I was thinking an area much lower...make more of a point for any others who might be thinking of such an atrocious and sickening crime...since they seem to think so highly of those anatomical features of themselves..

I have 2 boys that age and I can't relax for a moment not that you ever should but here it is extreme..and It's sad to say but foreigners are the biggest concern due to assholes like this..it makes me angry as I want to have sociable children and they are naturally but I have to make them 'stranger danger proof' and that requires me to look like an anti-social cock...

They were tested the other day by a stranger that approached them while I was watching from the window and they were playing out front and I was comforted to see them do exactly what they have been taught. One ran the other way and the other ran inside the gate when this Thai guy came up to them. I was conflicted though as on one hand I was happy they did what they've been taught, but on the other I know the Thai's don't understand this caution and just look at it as being another anti-social foreign knob...

but definately no relaxing around Thai's either..so this guy will be extradited then hopefully as we wouldn't want him becoming ward of the British tax payer as they have to provide for the cnut in a manner conducive to his comfort based some on other cases mentioned...

I saw yesterday where the Iranians sentenced a guy to blinding after he blinded a woman. I'm not sure how I feel about that mostly for the person tasked with the deed, but in cases such as this these scum, they can do without their nads just fine IMO..

Are illegal aliens who have commited Rapes, murders and drug deal with other outlaws.

BIRMINGHAM (Alabama) - TWO Americans who traveled to Thailand on three occasions to prey on young boys in sex sessions they filmed and photographed were Friday each sentenced to more than six years in jail.

Lee Burgess, 44, of Mobile, and Mitchell Kent Jackson, 31, of Pensacola, Florida both admitted to visiting Thailand between 2000 and 2002 to pay to have sex with boys aged between six and 10 years old.

US District Judge Kristi DuBose ordered Burgess and Jackson to serve a six year, five month prison term and said on their release both must register as sex offenders and be subject to a three-year probation period.

The two men had been charged under US laws prohibiting sex with minors in foreign countries introduced in 2003 to crackdown on paedophiles seeking sex with children abroad.

Officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement are actively involved in tracking down alleged American sex tourists traveling abroad to abuse children.

Thailand has been described as one of the capitals of the world's sex trade, known for flourishing prostitution and child sex trafficking.
