Lethal 150kg stingray caught by angler

Lethal 150kg stingray caught by angler

    Ian Welch, in yellow

Anglers may tend to exaggerate their catch – and Ian Welch's claims would sound a bit fishy if he did not have the photos to prove it.

The 45-year-old caught a freshwater stingray measuring the size of a snooker table while on holiday in Thailand.

The ray is thought to be the biggest freshwater fish in the world and took Mr Welch and four colleagues – one of whom was holding its lethal barb – nearly an hour to reel in.

After releasing the 150kg (23-stone) fish back into the Maeklong river, the keen angler, from Aldershot, Hampshire, said: 'I didn't know that something that size existed.'

Hmmm, seems to be one of those things you'd only eat in emergencies or when steaming drunk. Some amusing comments on the link though.
I don't believe Aboriginals eat sting ray and they'll generally eat anything. Many of them consider it sacred.
I like the way they get the local guy to hold the deadly barb.

Really! Does it taste good?. How do they cook it? Curried to buggery or as a piece of fish?

Probably not if you look at the link. Favourite seems to be curried. Ammonia appears to be a bit of a problem.
