Tourists flock to Doi Angkhang and Doi Inthanon

Tourists flock to Doi Angkhang and Doi Inthanon Saksit Meesubkwang

A record number of tourists are planning to visit Doi Angkhang to view the sakura (cherry blossoms) and other flowers which are blooming spectacularly on the mountain as the temperature drops and the Mae Kaning (frozen dew) becomes visible.

As a result, all accommodation at the Doi Angkhang Agricultural Station Project is fully booked, although rooms and facilities are still available at nearby resorts and attractions.

At a meeting held earlier in Fang District, all businesses serving tourists were specifically requested not to overcharge visitors during the high season.

Two main routes, the Chiang Mai-Chaiprakarn and the Chiang Mai-Chiang Dao-Chaiprakarn-Fang roads, provide access to the Doi Angkhang area, but visitors who are not familiar with the roads are advised to use the frequent and comfortable bus services.

On arrival at their destination, tourists can enjoy a visit to local Palong villages, shop at the Doi Angkhang Royal Project for locally grown fruits, and experience the beautiful sunrise at the Baan Khob Dong viewing station.

Other famous tourist destinations such as Doi Inthanon itself, together with Huay Nam Dang National Park in Mae Hong Son are also reporting record visitor numbers.

The Northern Meteorological Centre reported that morning temperatures in the area would gradually decrease in mountainous areas to a low of between 1-2 degrees Celsius, with a range of between 2 and 10 degrees.

It's a fairly steep road in places, black ice in Thailand. Get the gritters out.

OK, so I didn't get any pictures of cherry trees, but there were some nice views, so here they are.

This is near Chiang Dao on Road 107.

The next two were taken from near the top of a mountain/big hill overlooking the Fang Valley. It was lovely up here, and just above where I was standing was a small homestead which must have got an even better view.

Doi Ang Khang Nature Resort is nothing but a collection of small shops with people selling the same old Made in China shite. Apparently, it used to be really nice here, but now it's just another place that has been fucked up by commercialism.

On the way back to Chiang Dao there were some lovely views, so not all is lost.

These two are looking back along the valley towards Doi Ang Khang.

The rest are taken further along Roads 1340 & 1178.

The frost picture reminded me of my years in Taiwan.
On the rare occasions that there was a dusting of snow up in the mountains , tour companies ran special day trips from Taipei.
All organised - included in the package were padded jackets, "Moon Boots" - ear muffs and ski hats!
All to shuffle around in an inch of snow for an hour !

The road from Mae Salong to Pasang, route 1234& 1130 or rather the outskirts of MaeSalong is lines with cherrytrees..
-sorry can't show any pics as I'm not allowed to do that yet
One thing I do not understand- in this context at least! It is the two roads leading to Doi Ang Khang mentioned in the text clip... thought the only one was route 107 north and turn left following route 1249. You took the left fork 6km north of Chiang Dao? How was the road after Na Wai?

There's 2 routes from Chaing Dao to Doi Ang Khang. One is up the 107 (the way we went) and we returned along the 1340 & 1178.

The road was ok, steep in places, but not too bad. There were a lot of bendy bits and a few Chinky villages dotted around. Quite nice actually.

With a weak sedan car with four farang-sized people and (too much) baggage, you may struggle a bit up the steepest parts, but a newish car and/or fewer people (or not as fat) you'll be ok.

I am not drunk. I can read. I thought I could follow an instruction even one in English. I will ask the webmaster to delete this post and then I will try again.
    Happy New Year

Well half an hour later and after reading more of KM's tutorial. I finally got it.... so this is a horse and a woman with a hangover.
PS. Next pics will be from places in Thailand
