Israel protests: Thousands rally against Netanyahu immunity

Thousands of Israelis gathered on Saturday for a mass rally against moves to grant Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immunity from prosecution.

Protesters amassed outside a museum in Tel Aviv for "pro-democracy" demonstrations organised by Israeli opposition parties.

They are accusing Mr Netanyahu of trying to pass legislation that safeguards him from corruption cases.

Mr Netanyahu last month was elected to a fifth term as prime minister.

He could be indicted on fraud and bribery charges however in the coming months.

Saturday's demonstrations were the first held by opposition parties since Mr Netanyahu's election victory.

Some protesters wore Ottoman-style red fez hats and carried portraits of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who they claim "symbolizes the regime type that we are opposing".

Organisers claimed that tens of thousands attended the protests, but no officials figures were released by police.

Benny Gantz, the former Israeli army chief who ran against Mr Netanyahu in the election, addressed crowds at the rally. He said Israel's dream was "falling apart" under Mr Netanyahu's leadership.

"There are those who are attempting to replace the people's rule with the rule of a single man and to enslave an entire nation to the interests of one man," Mr Gantz said.

In February, Israel's attorney general said he was considering charging Mr Netanyahu with fraud and bribery.

The prime minister is alleged to have accepted gifts from wealthy businessmen and dispensed favours to try to get more positive press coverage.

Mr Netanyahu denies all wrongdoing and claims he is a victim of a left-wing "witch-hunt".

Opposition parties say Mr Netanyahu can not carry on as prime minister if he is charged.

The Supreme Court will determine whether he must resign, but opposition parties fear he is pursuing legislation that will limit the court's power.

Mr Netanyahu is yet to form a government despite weeks of talks with potential coalition partners.

The deadline to do so is 29 May, when the president can invite another member of the Knesset legislature to try.

Saudi and Iran's common enemy would happily supply selected arms to Saudi against their common enemy.

You re quite out of date. The israelis and Sauds have become best friends, both pushing their babypappa Murika to attack Iran. Funnily enough Iran should be the natural friend and ally of the west in that they are mortal enemies of the Sauds wahabism. this is one of the principal reasons Sauds hate Iran and have teamed up with Bibi the Butcher who also needs Iran as the enemy of the west to distract attention from the Ethnic cleansing of PAlestine.

    Carry on.

JERUSALEM — A politically fatigued Israel cranked back into election mode on Thursday, barely 50 days after its last national ballot and after the staggering failure of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a government by midnight Wednesday.

With the next vote set for Sept. 17, Israel is in uncharted political terrain. Mr. Netanyahu is Israel’s first prime minister-elect to be unable to form a coalition after an election, and the first to force another one by dissolving a Parliament sworn in just a month previously. His aura of invincibility, formed over a decade in office, has been seriously dented.

Analysts described the chaos as unprecedented, even by the rough standards of Israeli politics. And the morning-after recriminations over who is to blame for the political crisis gave an early taste of the contentious season of campaigning to come.

He's like a smart Trump. Dangerous. He has his solid base of blinkered Zionists that will do anything for him as long as he gets rid of the Palestinians so they can have the land God promised them.
Lets hope he's out and a more moderate gets in.

funny how you can rewrite history with wiki, amazing, he was in the Bush Sr admin around 1991, and there was also a documentary about him and his double nationality. From the look of things, he was Mossad, since they rewrote his whole Legend on wiki

Most valued partner’: NSA fed Israel intel for targeted assassinations, leaked docs show
    Published time: 1 Jun, 2019

Frustrated by a legal ban on sharing intelligence with Israeli operatives conducting targeted assassinations against Hezbollah, the NSA crafted a loophole giving them total access even to US citizens' data, leaked documents show.

The Israeli SIGINT National Unit (ISNU), the NSA's counterpart in Tel Aviv, convinced the Americans to circumvent the legal prohibition on providing surveillance data for targeted assassinations during Israel's 2006 war with Lebanon, according to the newest revelation from the archives obtained by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Using the familiar rationale of "terrorism" to excuse cooperation they knew was illegal, the NSA and ISNU found a workaround using the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that provided the Israelis with all the intel they needed, according to an October 2006 article in the NSA's internal publication.

"To ISNU, this prohibition [on sharing data for targeted killings] was contrary not only to supporting Israel in its fight against Hizballah but overall, to support the US Global War on Terrorism," said an article in SIDToday.

Its author, whose name is redacted, details the "late-night, sometimes tense discussions" he had with ISNU officials who believed they deserved an exemption from the US prohibition on abetting targeted killings.

The documents don't include details of what "arrangement" was eventually worked out with the ODNI, but the Israeli military used American data to lay waste to Lebanon's civilian population, much like the tech-enhanced US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, whose kill-counts swelled with civilian victims after they received access to NSA targeting data.

I don't remember but I remember a group of Israeli who seemed to be cheering when witnessing 9/11 mayhem from afar...which looked strange coming from "friends of the US"...

Urban Moving Systems, owner Dominik Suter

On September 11, following calls to authorities, New Jersey police stopped and searched five Israelis in a van belonging to Urban Moving Systems. Explosive traces were found inside the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses had earlier seen three of the five men celebrating and ‘high-fiving’ while taking photos of the WTC, between the first and the second plane strikes. The Israelis later admitted to being in a jubilant mood.

Inside the van, officers found maps of the city with certain locations highlighted, box cutters, $4700 cash stuffed in a sock and foreign passports.

Sivan Kurzberg, the van driver, without being asked volunteered: “We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem.”

The FBI seized and developed the men’s photos, one of which shows Kurzberg flicking a cigarette lighter in front of the smouldering WTC ruins in an apparently celebratory gesture.
The five men were detained and questioned. Their statements were contradictory, and some of them failed their polygraph tests.

They became known as the ‘Dancing Israelis’. Two of them were already on the US’ counterintelligence database. Urban Moving Systems, the ostensible employer of the five Israelis, was a front operation.

The Israelis were held in custody for 71 days before being quietly released and deported on visa violations.

A few days after 9/11, Urban Moving Systems’ Israeli owner, Dominick Suter, dropped his business and fled the country for Israel. He was apparently in such a hurry to flee that some of Urban Moving Systems’ customers were left with their furniture stranded in storage facilities.
