BANGKOK, 29 April 2019 (NNT) - After the approval of marijuana usage in medicine, the Department of Medical Services (DMS) has held a training course for medical staff on proper prescription and usage of medical marijuana products, providing certificates to trainees to be used for registration with the Food and Drugs Administration.
Some 200 medical professionals, mostly doctors, dentists, and pharmacists attended the training session on the use of marijuana products in medicine, aimed at giving trainees proper knowledge of appropriate prescriptions and usage of medical marijuana products. The training provided participants with information on the characteristics and effects of marijuana, related laws, and cautions. A test was held at the end of training where persons passing with more than 60% of the maximum score, received a certificate allowing them to register with the Food and Drug Administration for a medical marijuana prescription permit, valid for two years.
The DMS Director General Somsak Akksilp has stressed the training is aimed at ensuring proper usage which is beneficial to patients. Similar training can also be held by educational institutions or related agencies, but will have to be further approved by the DMS in respect to the content, speakers, and post-training evaluation.
