BANGKOK, 10 April 2019 (NNT) – In a cashless society, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has launched a pilot project to accept bus fares with the use of state welfare cards, debit and credit cards or Application on QR Code, beginning with Air-conditioned Bus Number 510 and planned for passengers to use one card for all buses.

Acting BMTA Director Prayoon Chuaykaew said the BMTA has joined hands with Krungthai Bank for the pilot project to accept cashless bus fares on board Air-conditioned Bus Number 510 for a two-months time from April 9.

The bus fare can be collected by an EDC machine with the use of state welfare cards, contactless debit and credit cards issued by all banks or Application on QR Code. Besides, passengers may buy electronic cards of the BMTA available for sales on board or at bus stops outside Major Rangsit trade center, Don Mueang airport, BTS Chatuchak station and at Victory Monument on Phaholyothin side. A promotional sale is available for passengers to pay 40 baht for a 50-baht electronic card.

More than 4,000 passengers have used the electronic ticket on the first day of the pilot project, which is to be evaluated on weekly basis. The BMTA has planned to accept cashless bus fares on board all buses of Number 510 in the next two weeks.

If found successful, the project will be expanded to have a single card applicable to all buses in all routes. Those who may not use Bus Number 510 very often can take a refund at all branches of Krungthai Bank.
