Truckload of pangolins intercepted in Prachuap

    Nation
Police early Sunday morning seized 76 live pangolins estimated combined retail value overseas Bt10 million from a smuggler in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Ratchaburi native Sompol Mekchai, 45, was apprehended in Sam Roi Yot district at 2am on Sunday after police suspected he was trying to dodge their checkpoint on the Phetchkasem Highway.

Seeing his pickup suddenly swerve onto a canal-side road 300 metres from the blockade, officers gave chase, pulled him over and searched the truck.

The pangolins were bundled up in 18 mesh bags stashed in the cargo bed beneath planks of wood and other construction materials.

Police claim Sompol confessed to having smuggled live pangolins three times before, earning Bt8,000 each time.

But he could not identify his employer, having received his orders by phone.

Pickups already holding the animals were always left at a designated location for him to use. This time he collected the truck in Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan and was heading for Pathum Thani, he said.

Sompol is charged with possessing protected wild animals without a permit.

And yet, most of the Occidental types forget who the real destructive boogieman might be.

What would be a better collective noun for pangolins?

Plethora? Parliament? Pallette? Plague? Parcel? Pack? Pride? Pod?

I like your pondering over collective nouns. What was your last one? Whores? I think I offered "a corner of whores".
How about a "scale of pangolins"? Parcel sounds too cuisiney in the circumstances, parliament is owls, plethora is too self explanatory, pack...nah, not wolfish enough, nor pride nor pod. Pallete..possible. If you insist on alliteration, how about a poaching of pangolins?

If I recall, I also offered a lobby of whores. Was it your trip to KL or SIN?...I seem to recall a photo of some whores in a hotel lobby.
I prefer a corner of whores.

Useless fact of the week: There is no collective noun for Pangolins.

That's because literally the only time they are found in groups this large is when there is a market of tiny dicked chinkies who think eating them will make their tiny dicks bigger.

The best you're ever going to get is "pairs".

    Interesting.
So maybe a poaching of pangolins is apt.

Sucks to be a Pangolin. Apparently, now they are the world's most poached animals.. Other than sharks anyway.

How many can possibly be left?

"The scales arrived in bulging, stained bags. Hundreds of them.

They sailed into a Singapore inspection port by shipping container, the vessel marked “frozen beef” and bound for Vietnam. Inside, customs officials found the sacks, packed and piled from floor to ceiling. They overflowed with the product of a wildlife smuggling operation so vast, yet so niche, it had conservationists worried about the extinction of an animal that most people haven’t even heard of yet.

The scales — 14 tons of them — belonged to roughly 36,000 poached pangolins. It is the largest-ever seizure of its kind, another grim superlative for the scaly anteater, which is believed to be the most-trafficked mammal in the world.
“We’re hearing the last death knell of pangolins,” said Crawford Allan, the senior director of TRAFFIC, a World Wildlife Fun partner that monitors illegal wildlife trade. “This is our last chance to save them. They cannot sustain this level of poaching and trafficking.”

    Nuke the chinkies.

    No demand = plentiful supply.
