Thailand Approves Weed Killer Linked to Palsy

    Chayanit Itthipongmaetee

BANGKOK — A toxic herbicide linked to Parkinson’s disease was approved by officials Thursday for use in Thai agriculture for at least two more years despite health concerns.

Paraquat is among three controversial chemicals that will still be permitted for agricultural use, the Hazardous Substance Committee announced Thursday to the disappointment of advocates calling for its ban. The other two are glyphosate and chlorpyrifos.

The use of the three herbicides and pesticides will be allowed for six crops: rubber, cassava, maize, sugar cane and fruit trees.

No worries, all that toxic agricultural runoff gets filtered out by......

    the fish.

Then dill pays big bucks to have someone fry it up for him and put it on a pretty plate.

Mine they leave the guts in, salt the hell out of it and stuff a stalk of lemmon grass down its throat. I know you've seen.....

    the fish.

And Thailand wonders why the EU has problems with its agricultural exports.....things is CP and its ilk couldn't give a shit about the farmers, the end consumers or anyone else affected through the supply chain or any environmental concerns.

Some western countries (thinking EU here) failed to ban those chemicals too, seems that legislators have too much ties with Chemical sector's lobbyists.

So not shocked that Thai authorities tend to delay, postpone, require further studies ... considering farmers are more numerous here, they won't change their ways unless compelled, and it:s not exactly the right time to piss them off....

Any decisions determined regarding these carcinogenic/toxic substances has little to do with safety, health, and well being of said populations.
Most everything to do with greedy profits and strong agri/pharm-chemical influence.

And, sadly, practiced the world over.

^^Yup. The committee overseeing this decision suspected of having "vested interests" in preventing the ban. ie; Someone on the board owns the company supplying this carcinogenic crap.
Having said that, Paraquat is still produced in the UK (in my hometown) on a former ICI factory now owned by the Chinks, for export.
