Chiang Mai third most polluted city

Sky in northern capital turns brownish as Air Quality Index gives it ‘unhealthy’ reading.

CHIANG MAI yesterday ranked third on the global list of cities with worst air pollution, based on Air Quality Index (AQI) records, by an internationally recognised AirVisual platform.

Chiang Mai’s AQI scores stood at 194 as of press time, a level considered “unhealthy”. Any figure beyond 200 is very unhealthy. Across the world, Chiang Mai’s severe air pollution was just behind the Indian capital of New Delhi (AQI 215) and Pakistan’s Lahore (AQI 197).

AirVisual prides itself for making the world’s largest air-quality data available at one’s fingertips.

In Thailand, Chiang Mai is one of many provinces in the North struggling with smog, including Lampang, Phrae, Lamphun and Nan.

In Chiang Mai, the sky turned brownish yesterday due to the haze.

I'm not buying it. Loopy posts up that UB is usually around 7,000.

    Mandaloopy is luxuriating in a mere 80 today. Here's a real-time readout. https://aqicn.org/city/ulaanbaatar/mnb/

Must be a temperature inversion, plus coal-burning.

Astana is the second-coldest capital city in the world after Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

    FFS.

What did you do with your life, Dad?

I stayed at home because I was scared of the smoke.

^^ well sports sessions involve some heavy breathing which is not recommended when heavy pollution occurs. Nothing spectacular, just logic.

Few jobs here require professional to be panting outside, or at least I still have to see a Thai professional exhausting him/herself doing it (yep even when I did some rice harvesting, people were not breathing heavily because of the work)

Air has been great in UB for the last week- I have been able to go to the gym, walk around outside for more than 30 mins and open the windows at home without feeling winded and dizzy in 15 mins. Bliss!

    Re: the air purifiers...

I've always suspected those things are a scam. Could be a placebo effect if you really think you notice a difference.

They definitely work as long as they have the correct filters and are properly rated however the issue with them is the effective area that they cover -- i.e. not very much.

I forget right now what that particular model does but I think it's only 22m2 or something like that.

We need four to cover the living areas and kids bedrooms properly.

The filters work for sure, got one in my bedroom and living room and don't have sinus pain in the morning and less nosebleeds. Dry air plus pollution is no fun at all with out them. I wonder what damage 1.5 more years of this could do?

I bet. He really is an utter loser isn't he.

His life is so lacking that even my air filters become an issue for him. There's literally nothing benign or mundane enough for him to not obsess over.

Hi Smeg, you fucking utter nutter loser!

His little piggy head would explode!

    You're right though.

He'd spend hours and days dissecting everything to the nth degree, declaring characteristics and meaning and ascribing personality traits from the brand of cheese we buy. Obsessed loon.
