Brew Bandits: Crowd ‘Cleans Up’ 80,000 Cans of Leo on Phuket

PHUKET — When a truck carrying nearly 90,000 cans of Leo Beer flipped Friday morning in Phuket City, men, women, children and even motorcycle taxis rushed in to lend a hand.

Several hours later, the transport company went to the police with a small complaint: 80,000 cans – 94 percent of the beer – were unaccounted for. The company suspects that 2-million-baht worth of beer was stolen by “Good Samaritans” following the accident.

What's the big deal, they were probably damaged anyway.

Or did stupid company not have insurance?

You should be thanking them for cleaning up the mess, you ungrateful bastards.

Looks like even the farang joined in.

Came across a ten wheeler overturned on the 101 halfway between Nan and Phrae recently. Had spilled a load of bottled Leo, and the majority still seemed to be intact. Despite it being around 6:00am there was a large police and locals presence, in separate groups. Said to the wife that I suspected both groups would have preferred the other not to be there. Lovely smell as we crawled past it.

Legal action has already been taken against four people who ‘removed’ beer cans after a truck carrying boxes of beer cans overturned in Phuket on January 11.

A logistic company representative has filed a report with police after more than 80,000 beer cans, valued at more than two million baht, mysteriously “vanished” after the truck overturned in Rassada.

The Phuket City Police Chief Col Sompong Thiparpakun says, “Four people have now been arrested. They have admitted that they saw other people taking beer cans, so they did too. They say they have consumed the contents of all beer cans. ”

“If evidence can be provided that other people took these beer cans and sold them, legal action will be taken against them too.”

“It was illegal to remove these items from the crash scene.”
