Why the U.S. Homeland Security (not the F.B.I. or USMS) was involved w/ the arrest process, is anyone's fathomable guess.
Anyway, those flakey Filipinos (as usual) can't seem to shake their 120 year-old Love Hate Bromance with "The States",...apparently,...eh?

Well the Japs were worse. I guess they hold onto that.

Ever notice disturbing trend of lesser/lighter sentencing regarding these perverts, regardless of location [worldwide] in which they ply their wares.
Always seem to be back on the streets after a couple of years - paroled, suspended sentence, pardoned, short sentence, etc.
Seems as their punishments are clearly never severe enough.

Especially as such applies to officialdom of the Roman Church.

The Japs also built the major highways, in Central Luzon, during their 4-year tenure in the P.I. While the U.S. built what, in the P.I.(other than their own military facilities), between 1898, and 1940?

I got that ^ tidbit from a Filipino, 50 years ago.

,...but Roman Catholic priests are not the only clerics guilty of that behaviour pattern.

I've heard a few interesting stories about the real "goings-ons", in some Buddhist Monasteries.

I have been told many priest's who go to Thailand, telling people it is to look after the orphans, but instead it gives them a smorgasbord of children.

Sadly, I am not surprised or shocked that a Catholic priest could possibly do such a thing. I am at a loss to understand how a priest could reconcile this with his faith. That does escape me. F.O. Tom.

the Merkins also established many schools, TB. Among them is the University of the Philippines (UP) system - there are several campuses now. And it was free education - a state university. The Spaniards put up schools & unis, but they were private schools and only rich could afford them. The Merkins also established free public schools (primary & secondary). Again, during the Spanish period, only the rich could afford to be educated.

The library in my old grade school had donated books from the US - I grew up reading books containing Ned & Nancy, who were blond & blue eyed. I was also familiar with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, and was educated in a state run university. So in effect, my education (and my use of English) is due to the American occupation, and I am thankful for that.

From what I've read, pedos aren't looked upon too favorably in USA prisons.

As to the OP - the Catholic priest who's an American - I'm glad he was caught and I hope he rots in jail.

However, despite what all of you think of the Catholic Church - I can't blame you for that. But I can say that there are still many good priests and nuns - their works don't get publicized because it won't be sensational. They help the sick, the poor, give comfort to the bereaved, etc. Just like Buddhist monks - same same but different.

To those who don't know, I'm a Filipina and I'm Catholic.

I found this to be a very good film about the coverup of the Catholic Church's pedo priests. Certainly worth watching and the link works right now.

...no challenge at all: sinners confess, do a rosary twerk and are forgiven...rinse, repeat...I am at a loss to understand how the church could play down such behavior for centuries while the perpetrators still hope to go to heaven...such nonsense...

I'm sure there are. Statistically probable.
The criminal in the OP....even his closest friends and associates thought the same of him .....but then he was caught. We can take a very good guess and assume there are others, thought of highly and who do good works, not yet caught, and maybe never caught.

You are right of course Katie. Many priests and nuns do good work especially for the poor and the sick. Unfortunately the church in many instances has chosen to look the other way rather than cut out this cancer in the past. This has caused many to question their faith. The male dominated hierarchy needs to open up far more and put women in leadership roles within the church administration and ministry.

Both your ^^ points are well-stated. Thank you for sharing your perspective...

Laos or Vietnam, maybe. I'm certain you were told wrong, regarding that "smorgasbord of children" availability to a Roman Catholic priest.

Such a "Padre" wouldn't stay alive past six months...in Thailand......guaranteed...

There's definitely a dimbo on this thread.

Steven Erik Prowler didn't seem too happy about being sent back to the US.

    25 years he got.

    Every cloud.
