A 69-year-old Norwegian tourist was found dead on Wednesday morning hanging from a rope attached to a rooftop water tank at a luxury condominium in Pattaya.

With no sign of foul play and a suicide note found, police concluded that Max Holden took his own life at the 31-floor North Shore condo building on Soi Pattaya 5.

His room was on the 23rd floor.

He’d used a mountain climber’s rope and elsewhere on the roof were knives and other tools also commonly used for climbing.

31 floors to play with and 23 from his own private balcony diving platform and he chose a rope from the rooftop watertank.

That is original thinking and I salute Herr Holden.

The process took three hours as they went down to inspect the body rather than hoisting it back up in order to 'preserve evidence'.

'I was leaving for work in the morning and saw a lot of people looking up at it. There were a lot of police trying to get the body.
'It was very traumatic. I'm shocked that the person was hanging from the building like him. Many people saw the body hanging there because it took a long time to get it.'
Police are trying to determine whether Mr Holden, who was found with a bullet wound just below the mouth, was killed before being thrown from the building.
Officers discovered several knives inside his room on the 23rd floor of the North Shore condominium building and have launched an investigation into his suspicious death.
Pattaya Police Chief Apichai Krobtech said: 'The body was suspended from the 31st floor and hanging down until the 29th floor.
Max Holden was a 69-year-old expat from Oslo, Norway who lived in Pattaya. Officers are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding his mysterious death
'The natural disaster relief team to had to rappel down the building to recover the body for evidence without disturbing it.
'We will investigate how he died and find the true cause of death. Currently we do not know what it is. The body has been sent for a forensic examination.'

So, an unbalanced suicidal Scandawegian residing in an expensive condo in central Pattaya goes to the roof of his building and organises in the dark the means to hang himself but before doing so he inflicts a succession of slash wounds to his body and as a coup de grace just at the point he launches himself into his oblivion with a noose attached he shoots himself in the head.

Yep, clearly a straightforward belt and braces successful suicide case and no doubt following a post mortem we will learn that he also swallowed poison.

I am inclined to think that he was strangled and then lowered down the side of the building. I would bet that jumping from that height would have separated the head from the body.

Guns are expensive in Thailand. If he did shoot himself before he jumped then maybe a passer by at street level scooped up the dropped gun and quickly made a sharp exit.

The gun might have been damaged in the fall...

He could well be holding up the local branch of the 7/11 as we speak. Dangerous Thailand.
