MOPH to reduce number of deaths from 3 major causes

BANGKOK, 21st October 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has a policy to reduce the number of deaths from three major causes.

The MOPH Permanent Secretary, Sukhum Kanchanaphimai, said in 2019, the MOPH has a policy to reduce the number of deaths from three major causes of deaths in Thailand namely cerebrovascular diseases, Septicemia and traffic accidents.

The MOPH will provide a fast track so that patients can have access to appropriate treatment, he said.

He went on to say that the MOPH had instructed 81 large hospitals and small hospitals with potential to organize a stroke unit and fast track for patients with a cerebrovascular disease.

Not much of an article. Says they have a policy, but doesn't say too much more... stroke units work provided you get the patient to them in the golden hour... but the concentration has to be in the hospital and with the first responders recognizing a potential stroke and getting the victims to one of the stroke units.

Traffic accidents - yup, prevention, law enforcement, don't need a "policy" - just need to start enforcing the traffic laws - without prejudice would be a start.

More power to them - the more attention that is paid to the issues the more progress gets made. and, yes, progress is being made. Safety in general has significantly improved in the past twenty-five years, progress is being made. But, it is a big elephant - "one bite at a time"

    Good luck to them.
