Police to abolish jurisdiction limits for criminal complaints

BANGKOK, 11th October 2018 (NNT) - According to the Royal Thai Police (RTP), crime victims would soon be able to file their complaints at any police station in Thailand.

The RTP Spokesman, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Uthayo, said on Thursday that the RTP Commissioner-General, Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda, has approved the abolition of restrictions that require crime victims to report only at police stations where the incidents occurred. However, there is no information of when the change will actually come to effect.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya said many laws still need to be amended, and the changed will definitely benefit the public.

Proponents of the reform argue that the restriction prevents crime victims from seeking timely help and investigation.

Is it the law of the land (kingdom) or are the laws provincial? As is normal, the standard was to make things difficult for the peasants and easier for the administrators. Until now....maybe.

That's excellent. So if, for example, you get raped on Koh Tao, and you go to a police station in Koh Phangan, you can report.....

That case is what spurred this belated drive to change the normal procedure.

^ Yeah, possibly. I think it more likely the proclamation will be put in place but various stations will interpret it variously. The laziest will ignore it, others will cherry pick which complaints they'll accept.
