BANGKOK, 9th October 2018 (NNT) - Over 600 people have marched to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to submit a letter on how to solve issues of landlessness and homelessness. The march was held on the same day as the UN’s World Habitat Day, which takes place on the first Monday in October each year.

The group, consisting of community networks on land and housing and citizens affected by the government’s policies, traveled from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The letter contained demands, such as ending the crackdown on squatters on public land, establishing a land dispute resolution board with appropriate representation of the public, and creating a fund to compensate those affected by government evictions.

Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Wiwat Salyakamthornreceived the letter and spoke with the activists on the government’s assistance policies.

The group will continue its march to submit the letter to the Ministry of Transport and Government House.
