BANGKOK, 28th September 2018 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has clarified that parking fees in the city already conform to those recently announced in the Royal Gazette with the only change taking place being a waiver of fees between 4 and 8 am on Rajadamri Road in support of those exercising in the morning.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Kriangyos Sudlapa has assured the public that the city already collects roadside parking fees in accordance with rates promulgated by the Royal Gazette and has been doing so on all of its 66 roadways since 1992.

The only change being made to conform with the announcement is a daily waiver of parking charges along Rajadamri road between the hours of 4 and 8am to allow for citizens exercising in Lumphini Park. The waiver was previously between 4 and 8am as well as 5 and 7pm on weekdays but only between 5pm and midnight on Sundays.

Bangkok authorities dressed in beige uniforms and with identification cards are collecting the fees and issuing colored receipts, not to be confused with outsiders taking advantage of the situation to swindle park-goers. Citizens are asked to alert the police if they are approached by such individuals.

Parking rates are to continue to be 10 baht for the first hour and 20 baht for every subsequent hour. The BMA makes around 11 million baht from the charges each year but does not currently have enough collection agents with only 71 working citywide.
