BANGKOK, 19th September 2018 (NNT) – The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has begun the construction of a new power plant in preparation for the demands of Bang Sue Grand Station.

At a press conference today, MEA Governor Chaiyong Puapongsakorn said that the agency is collaborating with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) on the construction of the new plant to power the Bang Sue Grand Station, as the terminal will house the SRT Dark Red Line and other high-speed trains. In addition, the new power plant will ramp up electricity production for development projects in the area, such as the Smart City and the logistics hub of ASEAN.

Mr. Chaiyong revealed that the new power plant will cost around 1,200 million baht. The MEA will install power cables underground and use smart microgrids powered by green energy. As for its capacity, he said that the new power house could generate electricity up to 1,200 MVA or five times as much as the Bangpoo industrial estate does.

Mr. Chaiyong will ensure that the construction of the new power plant will be finished in 2019. Accordingly, it will be ready to supply power to the Bang Sue Grand Station that is due to open in 2020.

MEA Governor Chaiyong, also said at the launch function: "We have to take many factors into consideration, including the sufficiency of electricity, the reliability of the power transmission system, and the maintenance of the plant, but we will ensure that the construction is completed and ready as scheduled"
