Min of Education confirms English camp for teachers is voluntary

BANGKOK, 17th September 2018 (NNT) - The Ministry of Education has confirmed that its 15-day English boot camp for teachers is not compulsory, as claimed by critics on social media.

Education Minister Dr Teerakiat Jaroensettasin has slammed the information presented on social media as a distortion of the official announcement. He revealed that the ministry has filed a complaint on the basis that the social media posts violated the Computer Crime Act.

According to the minister, the program aims to improve the proficiency and teaching methods of English language instructors through intensive language immersion and training by native speakers. It includes assessments of listening, speaking, reading and writing ability.

Some teachers have opted out of the boot camp program, arguing that the 15-day commitment affords them no time for lesson planning.

Might have something to do with two lost weekends without equitable pay or compo. Or, could be suspicions that our glorious leaders would not for the first time schedule the program in or overlapping October or April, which are traditional school breaks. And then of course, some teachers take their teaching more seriously than career administrators and politicos and realise that for those two weeks their students would be neglected more than usual.

Teaching is a vocation, free housing, paid holidays, pension at 55, subsidised car loans, free A/C, adults and students wai at them and a uniform.

They do it for the children less we forget. As for the Lesson prep, sure.

    Yeah.
Much more akin to surface politics than practice.

Can't have teachers being shown up as deficient... and they know it themselves.
