19-day-old infant bitten by rabid dog in Nakhon Sri Thammarat

NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT, 8 September 2018 (NNT) - The stray dog which attacked a 19-day-old infant at her house at a village in Nakhon Sri Thammarat's Chalerm Phrakiat district was confirmed to have rabies.

Nakhon Sri Thammarat Provincial Office of Livestock Development declared the village in the southern province a temporary rabies epidemic zone. Officials are closely monitoring the village and have given out 26 rabies injections to the severely wounded girl's relatives and rescue workers who were exposed to her wounds.

Residents have raised concerns about other stray dogs which belonged to the same pack as the rabid dog did.

Nakhon Sri Thammarat Provincial Office of Livestock Development Head Thanawat Phansanit said the epidemic zone will be monitored for six months and measures will be implemented to contain and eradicate the disease, including the vaccination of all cats and dogs in the area.

Dogs do not have to be rabid, most of them will attack a baby given half a chance

19 days old and left somewhere a dog could bite it? Maybe this was the tenth child and the mother had become complacent.

How about vaccinating with an injection of lead in the form of a bullet?

That was what the authorities did in Laos years ago. Mass extermination.

NO BUDGET for vacines or lead,so lets just wait another 6months and keep count of the victims.

Vaccination for rabies is free if you take your dog to the tessebahn where I live. And I'm sure they're not the only ones providing this service. I put it down to ignorance.

Thais are too lazy to take dogs for a walk never mind taking them for an injection, the 4 million strays of course have nobody to take them. Dogs are disgusting, dirty, dangerous animals.

Wouldn't go the bullet route, but shouldn't be difficult to sterilise a couple million bitches and let them live out their difficult lives as is; might turn into a race between sterilisation and breeding rates, though a concerted effort should do the job. Or cheaper and easier to stay 3rd World and just talk about it.

this is getting out of hand[SERIOUS] you bet,but like everything here if them in charge can make MONEY FROM MISERY rather than treat the suffering so be it.
its not so long ago[ this yr] an EX dept.official got his grubby hands on a load of fake vacines, and what did he do?pass them on to his wife allegedly who is a VET.
so you are going to get a lot of people take to try and do something themselves.which is not goner solve ANYTHING as they can be fined if caught.
putting them to sleep is a far better way of helping to ease the situation.

I agree but due to the stupid Buddhist faith they're not allowed to kill an animal unless it's for the purpose of consumption. So I'm told. They also need to retract the law banning the eating of dogs.

Would be a lot easier if all males are castrated before they become sexually active. Just a case of banding their bollocks and job did.

I would. It's fast and painless. Having had to shoot feral dogs and cats back on the farm, and twice a pet that retained village cur instincts and could not be taught not to eat the chickens, I think a bullet is the cheapest and quickest way to get rid of dangerous pests.

Best to bring back the plastic buckets, and ship all the strays back off to the neighbouring countries for there nourishment.

The strays are now becoming wild on the farms around us,and dear me no-one can do anything since the law change.

due to the stupid buddists faith, which IS THE RESPECT FOR LIFE yet these strays are CONDEMMED to a life of MISERY by the very people.
the owners that dump them have NO HEART.and the only faith is the i want money and most dont care how they get it,the thai way,MURDER,CHEAT,ROB whoever stands in their way.i am sickened every day when i see or hear stray dogs fighting by the rubbish bins and there seems to be more every day,and where do they come from fyking owners who spend hundreds of bht.on a bottle of car shampoo yet its tooooooooooo much to take their pets to the vets for any treatment.
so as a dog lover i hate every one of them.[NOT THE DOGS]
